So I have provisionally booked a harpist for the ceremony and meal, however I am now having serious doubts as I just dont think its very "us". I would much rather have some Buble playing and some other fun music then boring harp music.
What does everyone think ? I will lose my £70 deposit BUT will save £400 in the long run.
Thoughts please :-), I know its ultimatley down to me but just wondered if anyone else had had a harpist or been to a wedding where they did, does it get a bit boring after 4 hrs of it ?

I love the harp and i would LOVE ONE!!!
You will be surprised as to what they are able to play on them now (obviously not the same as the proper songs etc but still can do some nice stuff) I assume you have heard what the one you ahve booked plays (do they have play list, are you able to request?) xx
I dont listen or paly harp but if i could i would have one but if you really dont thnk its you and would be happier with soemthing else then maybe it not the right choice for you and with regards to the length of time i personally think 4 hours is a long time for it could you not have it for less time? xx

Ultimately, you've already answered your own question, it is down to you. But also, you've also mentioned its not very 'YOU'. the day is about 'you' so make it what 'you' want it to be! Harpist's can be quite nice and relaxing, and to some enduring 4 hours would be a pleasant experience but if your unsure then you have to think is it really worth the £400?? If you prefer to stick on a CD, and by the way, Buble, very good choice, then just do that!

I love music and am a qualified piano teacher however, apart from me and my mum everyone else in my fanily and OH is musically challenged. Even for me I think 4 hrs is too much and am kind of leaning more towards the "swing" style of music for the meal and having it a lot more relaxed and care free, not so stiff.
I HAVE answered my own question !! haha. Just needed to vent it to get my thoughts and own opinion straight in my little head.

p.s Buble = GOD !!! Got tickets for July nxt year, cant wait !!

I think harps are lovely and Make great background music to the meal but if you really have changed your mind cancel, better to save £330 than spend £ 400 you don't really want to.

They are lovely and I think they really add something to the atmosphere, however four hundred quid is a lot to spend on something if you personally don't think it will be right xx

I went to a wedding with a harpist. Unfortunately it was quite a big venue and you could only hear the music as you walked in, then you invariably spread out and I forgot I had even seen one till someone mentioned it later.
I don't have a downer on them, but how many times do you come away from a wedding and remember the harpist? I think it's a good call saving your money for something else.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the harp. However, we really wanted live music, so we've gone with a pianist, as they'll be able to play a much bigger range of music inc more 'upbeat' numbers. So, have you considered a different instrument, like the piano?

im not a fan of the harp and i couldnt justify the cost of one. i want string music at my wedding but i will be doing it on a cd player! my friend forked out £500 for them to play one hour at the ceremony and hardly anyone remembers them being there.
maybe have a cd made up and have harp music x x
