    Morning all.

Me and my H2B are at loggerheads over the invitations, place cards, menus and order of services. He wants to handmake all of them and I would rather spend a little extra and buy them in.

We have a busy few months ahead of us, he is looking for a new job with more responsibility and if he gets one he will be very busy with that. I am starting a new teaching post in a completely new area of London which will be a major adjustment to where I have been working before. I am also in the middle of an MA which is part-time online so this takes up my evenings right up until the wedding (and after) and we are waiting to complete on a new home which needs some work doing to it. On top of that we have Christmas, 30th birthdays and general social activities to contend with. He seems to think he can do it all but unfortunately he doesn't really have any creative bones in his body and I am weary of him doing 120 invites, 130 order of services, place cards, table numbers and menus and making sure they are all the same. I'm worried!

What do you all reckon? Has anyone hand made their own invites and if so any good places to get materials/designs from?

    Thanks xx

in my personal opinion men who tend to think they are good at something like crafts end up not being good and then get stressy and frustrated...I'm going to try and make my invitations (everything else sorted out by the venue) but it'll only be something simple, and I have plenty of time to research style etc. I just made engagement invitiations by printing them onto photopaper (looks a bit better than plain card imo)

I'm making mine but I love doing crafty stuff. I think 120 invites are a lot (I'm only making one per family so only 60) & it's still going to take me a fair few hours to make them... it's nice that he wants to help but it does sound like you've got an awful lot on your plate... you won't have to send then out for a few months maybe say to him that you want them done by December and if he hasn't had time to even start them then you can say right lets go buy some & then you've given him the chance to get creative :) x

I've sort of done half and half. I ordered the things for aseembling the invites from a website, and then will be assembling them myself (with possible help from MOH and H2be lol) Cost a little less than buying them entirely ready made but without the need to be too creative as there is an 'invite creater' tool which lets you design the look you want. We are going to send our out in December time as we are going to include a christmas card too and save postage there! :p

It does save alot of money doing them yourself, but I personally couldnt do it. Im very luck that my dad is a printer so will be having it all done professionally without having to pay for it.

My friend did all her all and she said she found it very stressful but everyone is differnt. If u have the time a patients then i say go for it! x

We're making ours I'm rubbish at this sort of thing but h2b is a graphic designer so I'm leaving it to him lol I would buy them if he wasn't doing them cause I am just that bad is there much of a cost difference to making them and buying them? X

i made my own invites 65 of them & they took me ages with 5 kids, i think your probably better off buying them as youve got so many, also place cards & everything it will take you a lot longer than you think & you sound so busy already.
If you do decide to make them i would start now & you can get a lot of the stuff of ebay, got eveything for my invites off there xx

yeah...will see how we go with the move...may be happening this weekend so once we are in there the realism of how much we have to do may hit him and he may 'give in' to my idea of buying them in. xx

hummmm you can get everything all made up from websites ready for him to stick together. but i think that it is probably best not if he has not made loads of cards in the past. I would buy them if I where you life sounds stressfull enough

I do lots of crafty things all the time and have loads of time on my hands but I found that by the time I had brought in all the items I would need to make them it was cheaper to buy some really nice ones from ebay that are £1.10 each and also print each guests name in them. It is well worth shopping around. Arm him with all the information and then see if he thinks handmade is a good idea or not.

I thought about making them but when I've looked in to it I don't thinknit actually works out cheaper to do them yourselves although it dies add that personal touch & you could do something unique. But with a 2 year old & an 8mth old I don't think I'd have the time either. Mind you could always get them to make some lol xx

I'm making ours but I enjoy crafty stuff and I'm starting early! H2b actually prefers the mock up cards I mave been making to designs we have found on the web. Whether it's cheaper or not depends on what you end up making. I have recently swapped ideas to a much cheaper and easier alternative so now I will be saving money. Before I was making them out of bordem and not being able to find any I liked to buy!

I've made ours (with a little help from MIL although depending on what you want either way can be cost effective.

Some invites can be cheap to buy but look really good but unless you know where to look can be a bit impersonal at least with DIY ones you can personalise them exactly how you want unless your rubbish at crafts. :)

buy DIY ones as a compramise. You buy them, print them and then put them together yourself. But the essence of the invite is already there. Some good ones on Confetti.

or get them printed somewhere like vista, cause will be a lot cheaper! your talking about £250 for professionally printed invites. Where as I got DIY ones, all i have to do is print out the insert myself and add a ribbon for £71. I know which I prefer! lol

I just made our 'Save The Dates' and I intend on making our invites as well. I think if you have the time and the patience (along with a little creativity to boot!), it is a nice and good idea to diy your wedding stationery. However you both sound like you are going to be really busy within the near future tho so I think it would be easier if you brought them in. Being stressed, busy and exhausted is not going to make for happy diy-ing sessions, and will prob make the invites look less then desirable! lol x

I was going to make mine but have just had a quote for 100 personalised invites with envelopes and 100 wedding list details cards to go with them for £45. That's less than 25p each, I couldn't make them for cheaper. I'll try to put the photo on my page.

I'm making bits and bobs, not decided weather to do day invites myself but we only have 50 guests, so I'd only have to make 25 anyway. I think after reading all your commitments buying them would be the wise choice, I made 10 save the date cards to put my save the date magnets in the other day, and it took me about 3 hours! It's alot more time consuming than you realise ( or should I say your H2b realises! lol ) If he still goes on about it tell him to do some trial invites, I can assure you after making between 2 and 4 he will agree to buy them! lol x
