    Hi all;
I found a good photographer who currently has a 20% offer which makes his cheapest package £400 which is in budget but the thing is; he is based in London but said that we didn't need to pay anything extra for travel costs e.t.c

I think this is a good offer but now h2b has installed worry into me by saying that booking now maybe too early as they may not turn up? Apparently they don't give contracts but I thought they did? Also the photographer said he is happy to come to Coventry for a consultation (for free; we still don't have to pay travel costs) and collect the £150 deposit if we go with him?

Does this sound too good to be true; also I'm slightly uneasy about giving over £150 over by hand as we wouldn't technically have any evidence. :S

What do you think we should do? We are going to the National wedding show this Saturday so may see some photographers we like there.

If you're happy with his work then I don't think it's too early to book. But I would make sure that you do have a contract and that you do get receipts for all payments. I'd make sure you're happy with any decision you make as any bargain you get may not be worth the stress it causes you. X

Who said they dont do contracts? If they did, then id be worried. Anyone should be happy to draw a contract up etc, it covers both of you. It sounds a bit too good to be true (sorry!), london to coventry is a long way to not charge fuel, it will cost him a large chunk of the 150 to get there.. im sorry but to me it doesnt sound right! Xx

I wouldn't hand over a deposit without having proof. I think you should find another photographer this doesn't sound right x

I wouldnt say its too early but i would defo advise to get a contract! We booked our photographer this time last year, so that was quite early but he stated in the contract that travel costs were included. I would ask them any questions you're concerned about first and go from there? But defo dont hand any money over without gaining some proof. xx

I would advise booking a photographer early as we booked ours last year for our date next year and they were already booked either side of our date! But that could depend on location and date of your wedding.

However, like the other ladies I would be wary of anything that sounds too good to be true - and someone that is unwilling to write a contract.

It sounds weird IMPO. I don't like that he wants a cash deposit (all our payments have been made either by credit card where possible, which offers extra protection, or, failing that, by BACS transfer; I would have felt uneasy if someone insisted on cash, though you can of course get a receipt), and the whole no contract thing is very dodgy; we've had contracts from all our suppliers, and again, I wouldn't have gone with anyone who didn't provide one. You may also find it's a requirement to have them from your insurance company (if you have one).

In short: 14 months out is not too early to book a photographer (we booked ours 16 months out and were the last to book him for 2014; so, he was fully-booked 16 months in advance); but I would not go with this one.

Thank you guys; I think he would do a contract; it's h2b that said they don't but I thought they did;' glad I'm right in that understanding. He emailed back saying we can pay him how we prefer as I said about wanting to pay online so we have proof e.t.c but I do think not charging to come from London to Cov; just for a consultation is a strange as surely it will cost him about £15 - £20 to get here (don't know where he lives in London) and then the same back.

I guess he wants the business but being happy to pay the £40 just to get to a consultation...he might just be a nice guy but if we don't have to pay any transport fees then surely that means he is losing £80 to come to the appointment and then to the wedding next year and he said that he would be staying over the night before (to make sure he would be there) and not asking for any money towards that either. So say £40 to stay over in a hotel; that's £120 that he would be happy to pay himself out of the £400 so he'd only be making a profit of £280 :S

This does sound too good to be true. We've going to the national wedding show this Saturday anyway so do you think I should just wait till then and hopefully see another photographer there? Or look for a closer photographer? Maybe I should just get out of it by saying we won a competition to win our photography?

    Um

No he's been doing it for 10 years apparently but I can only find a few reviews; surely someone with that much experience would have quite a few reviews to back him up :S

We booked ours in May 2013 for July 2015.. Good photographers are too few and far between to risk losing your date xxx

I have asked a lady who has a brilliant deal to just pencil me in on our date and I will give her confirmation in the next few months of whether we will be able to have that date. Could you be able to do that? x

We're getting married in 2016. I was looking at photographers and was struggling to find one I liked and within our budget. When I came across Evolve we knew straight away we wanted him. I sent a date enquiry and booked him there and then, which was lucky as he's fully booked for 2015! He sent a contract over and a receipt. I don't think it's too early at all!

I understand you're worried about handing over the cash with no contract/receipt, but surely they can give you at least a handwritten receipt?
