so we're having a very intimate wedding with around 15 guests
the plan is civil ceremony followed by an afternoon tea type thing out on the terrace whilst the photographs etc are done and then back into the room for a meal which will probably wrap up around 6pm. an approximate time scale we were given by the venue was ceremony 12:30-1. afternoon tea/photos: 1-3:30. wedding breakfast: 3:30 - 6. I just feel like 2 and a half hours of mingling for 15 people is just going to be way too long? i know the photos will be done in this time too but how many photos can you really take of 15 people? i'm assuming the posed group shots etc won't take longer than half an hour?
help!!
p.s sorry if i put this in the wrong category, i'm rubbish at this!

I think the 2 and half hours will go a lot quicker than you think Hun.. I think once the ceremony is finished there will be a bit of hovering about waiting to get out of the room or people taking pics of you and H2B signing the register.. Then the photographer will want to get everyone sorted, pics of you and your new husband alone, some natural shots, people chattering whilst drinking their tea.. I do think that part will be over before you know it xxx

Could you maybe push the ceremony forward just 30mins.. I honestly wouldn't have any less that 2 hours though..
I'm worried about our guests being bored as we slip off for an hour after the formal photos.. But hopefully a free drink and canapés floating around will satisfy them enough :-) xxx

if your worried about the length of time, have you thought about getting a majician for an hour or two to help pass the time and keep the guests entertained. I know someone who is really good, reasonably priced and will travel, he lives in BRadford. Would you like his details. if so let me know and i'll get them to you.
I agree, two and a half hours really isn't that long...particularly if they have refreshments too. Will they be able to purchase alcohol during that time too?
As its only fifteen guests, presumably most of them will know each so will be company for each other etc xx

laura that's the main thing i'm worried about - despite the small number of guests they don't really know each other. the 15 people are: my mum, dad, grandma, grandad. h2b's mum, dad, step dad, sister. 3 of my close friends, 2 of his and then us. our families don't know each other's... his mum & stepdad HATE his dad and the friends we are inviting don't know each other OR our families sooooooo i just worry it will be 2.5 hours of small talk with people they don't really know.
i worry that even 2 hours will be too long but i also worry that 1.5 hours wont be long enough! stress!

How about arranging a meal for everyone a week or so before to break the ice, so to speak ? At least there will be some familiarity there at least :-) xxx

I think its fine to be honest, as long as they can have a drink and a walk round and somewhere to sit they Will be fine. I have only 5 guests and our ceremony is 14:30 and our meal is 17:00.
When we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours
we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying
weirdness and call it love, true love.

I think the timeline looks good, the time for photos will go really quickly. At every wedding I've been to I've never spoken to more than 5 - 10 people during that time, so I wouldn't worry about not having enough guests to talk to.

thanks all for your replies. I am keeping them well stocked with tea, scones, etc during this time so hopefully that will keep them occupied. I have over a year to go so i will just have to make sure that in that time i get round to introducing everybody to each other.

If it helps, we only had 19 of us for our wedding and our timings were:
2.45 - ceremony 3.15 (approx) end of ceremony and then photos 4.25 (approx) end of photos and transport back to hotel for reception 4.30 - 4.45 - time for guests to mingle in the bar and wait for bride and groom to return 4.45 - 6.45 (approx) - bride and groom welcome guests, then wedding breakfast
We then had half an hour or so to ourselves in our room, and guests had time to freshen up etc before we met up in the bar for the rest of the evening.

i think that'll be fine, there were about 15 at my brother wedding and the photos still took ages. People usually like time time to chat at weddings so I wouldn't worry about gaps x

I think the time scale sounds fine hun. The day will fly by and you don't want to rush your photos etc. xxx

I think it's nice to have lulls and quiter periods - it also means you have a buffer in case the ceromony starts late or overruns (I had one friend whose ceromony started over 30 mins late as the registrar was stuck in traffic .
Plus it stops the day feeling to 'scheduled'.

I think it'll work out fine. People will mingle as they all have the wedding in common. Plus, as long as they are kept topped up with a nice drink and some nibbles everyone will happy! X

It'll also give you and your new hubby to have time to stop and take it all in xx
