I'm not getting married until 2015 due to financial reasons however I am full steam ahead in planning! I just wondered how far before the wedding is it customary to ask people to join your bridal/grooms party? I hope that made sense.

Think like Jodie said, You normally ask when you know you want to be involved, But if your not getting married till 2015. I would wait, as who ever is your closest friends now, it could all change in 2yrs time... not saying it will but just bear it in mind :)

Well my flowergirls are family so I know I definitely want them. My bridesmaid/maid of honour had decided her role before I even got engaged :P She's my future sister in law :P I'm just dillydallying on whether to ask another 3 of my cousins to be bridesmaids.

I would ask when you feel ready to and you're 100% sure who you want them to be.

I didn't even ask my sister, we both had an understanding we would be eachothers MOH as we are really really close, as in finish eachothers' sentences and constantly text eachother. My best mate knew she was BM long before H2B and I even met so when we got engaged I asked her straight away, she knew I would ask and I knew she'd say yes. H2B took a little longer because he wanted to be 100% sure but kinda knew who he wanted plus he had the added pressure of all his mates asking him and dropping hints they wanted in and so he need to ask the 3 discreetly.

    xx

to be perfectly honest, i'd leave it until you have maybe a year to go. if i had waited until then, i wouldn't have asked the people i have!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! people's relationships with friends can change dramatically in a few years
