Hi everyone. What are your thoughts in the grrom seeing the brides dress?
My fiance has seen mine, he helped me find it and these are my thoughts.

The reason why people say he shouldnt is because its unlucky. Here is the actual reason.

It was considered unlucky. Here's what I found on the web:

When marriages were arranged by family members, the newlyweds very rarely were allowed to see one another. Family members exchanging a dowry were afraid that if the Groom didn't like the appearance of the Bride's face, he might refuse to marry her. This is why the Father of the Bride "gave the Bride away" to the Groom at the actual wedding ceremony. Only after lifting her veil just prior to the ceremony did the Groom see the Bride's face for the first time! Early Greek and Roman Brides wore red or yellow veils to represent fire, and to ward off demons.

What are everyone elses opinions?

I respect everyones personal opinion and would never say that it was wrong and moan about it. We are having a few issues as people stronly disagree and say, 'its tradition!!!!'

I did at one point keep my idea of dress a surprise until I left the pic of the dress on screen one day and he saw it, not realising it was my dream dress he said it looked like a nightgown!!! Then there was the dress that was £15 from a well known store and he pointed out straight away that although my hips/bum etc have gone down my b00bs hadn't and it made me look top heavy.
Now I ask his opinion of the dresses I see. When I think about it, hes also my very best friend so I know he would give me a honest opinion and would never want me to get a dress that wasn't right. xx

i would rather my h2b didnt see mine, not because its unlucky but because i would like it to be a surprise. When i told him i didnt want him to see it he was getting really itchy feet and he wanted to see it and with being hung in my wardrobe i thought i would rather me show him it than him sneak a look so i offered to show him it but as soon as he was allowed he didnt want to see it (men are hard work lol )
When i have told people this i have had a lot of the same comments saying it will curse the wedding and its bad luck but im not superstitious and think after 10 years together and all the hard times we have got through together we are now getting married because its something we want to do, not because of a dress or a string of pearls and all them other rumors.

totally agree with u all. I didnt want to walk down the aisle with him thinking- what an awful dress! friends dont always tell the truth, he does x

My husband didn't see mine before the wedding. I don't tend to wear 'girly' dresses much, so I wanted it to be a surprise - and also we had a small wedding, so I told him that I was getting a dress to fit in with the wedding (nothing big, no frills etc). It was good to see his face when I walked down the aisle lol.

I think I would like my h2b to come with me when I try dresses on but probably not be there when I made the final choice so there was still an element of suprise! I partly want to do this as he keeps looking at dresses and saying how lovely they are (usually on size 8 models!) even though I know I would not suit them at all. It got so bad I took a pic of myself in a dress which was hideous on me. I got him to pick his fave dress from a few knowing he would choose this one and then showed him the pic....he got the message in the end! ha ha. I am not too bothered about the superstition element, just more worried about him not liking it.

I managed to keep mine a secret. Not cos I think it's bad luck but more because I wanted (and he did too) it to be a surprise. And it was! He didn't know it was as 'big' as it was. He thought I got a coast dress (which is a fair assumption as I did get get one of those as my 'back up' dress in case it was too hot to wear my actual dress in Vegas) so when I came in with a full on train, he was very surprised LOL!

I don't want my H2b seeing mine but thats because I want t surprise him. He would of never seen me that dressed up before so looking forward to seeing his face when he first sees me. I'm not superstitious in this case never thought it was unlucky for H2B to see it....the explanation you posted makes perfect sense though!

I haven't shown him persay, i had to show him a picture on the computer (on the model not me) because i said it was ivory an he said he hated ivory plus his chosen suit is a creamy colour (pic in album) an he didn't wanna buy his suit if they didnt go together an also i was terrified that he would hate it an i couldn't bare the thought of changing my dress when i loved it so much, so i asked if i could show him the dress an he said yes (i couldn't explain the colour properly hence why i needed to show him) anyhow he said computer pics are diff from the real thing so had to order a fabric swatch (been waitin 2 wks for it tho!!) so he hasn't seen me in it an as im not a dress wearin girl i hope he will love it an me in it (pic of me in it in album, took a while to feel comfortable in it an not feel frumpy) xx

def dont want h2b seeing me in the dress till im walking down the aisle, he has caught pics of it but not really looking at them i want it to be a total surprise xx

I cam right out and asked Steve if he wanted to see my dress but he said no, that he would rather wait until the day :)

Mine has seen the pics of my UK wedding dress, the simple one in my pics. He has nt seen it on though.

Unfortunately he saw the pics of my Spain dress after he borrowed my iPad and I had lefta pic on there by accident... This is the dress which I was trying to keep a complete surprise from everyone... And he hated it. Luckily there is another dress I like so I am being very careful to keep my iPad free of pics of it now haha

I have flicked through loads of pics with h2b and mine was in there, luckily it was not one of the ones he hated but he didn't seem overly impressed with it! Oh well too late now!

My h2b wants to see my dress and part of me says no way. Other part of me wants to show him in case he hates it! I would show him the pics of it from the designers website but it looks so different on me so it won't do it justice!

It is a hard one!

personally i dont want my dad, brother or H2b to see my dress until the day.. its too nice to spoil the surprise before the day. :)

i dont want h2b dad or any1 other than ones i takent o shop see it! its part of the surprise, h2b waitin at top anxious to see his beauitful bride 4 first time in her dress

I dont want him to see the dress but like the others it is just because I want to surprise him
I am sooo rubbish about keeping secrets that its really hard not to show him but im determined that i will keep this a surprise :s

He has seen that Maggie dress yes, only pics of the model, not me... Haha, I love it too, its so comfy and makes me feel so excited when I wear it! He saw that one and loved it so it made me feel very confident... I was even thinking of showing him the second dress because it made me feel a lot better knowing he liked it the first time...

Its the other dress, the Spain dress I accidentally showed him. i figured that since I have the opportunity to have two dresses (his rule haha not me!) that as I had gotten floaty and simple for my first dress, I wanted something a little more elaborate for Spain... His entire village will be waiting to see what I wear, and because I can have it both ways I was looking for something still appropriate for a Spanish summer... So i found the Model Novias zn310. i cant post pics so if you want to see please google it haha... I imagined it in white, with a sweetheart neckline and a sash...

H2b saw that one and HATES IT. He didnt have even one nice thing to say and while I know it will be different on me, I couldnt get it now knowing he hates it so much. So now I am thinking I might get the one advertised on here in the members dresses section there is a dress from PWF... It looks floaty and pretty... Definitely not bloody showing him anything now!

i wanna show my h2b so badly as i ask his opinion on everything mainly coz im lacking alot of confidence but trust him to tell me the truth and if it really does look nice convince me to wear it! but adz having none of it!! he doesnt wanna see it till im walking down the isle, he said that way he will remember that moment forever how beautiful i looked. as if he see's it b4 and without hair make up done it wont be as special as he will have other memories of me in the dress! pfft lets hope my bridesmaids help!!

My h2b hasn't seen my dress, he doesn't know anything about my dress and he won't see it till I walk down the aisle and that's exactly the way he wants it. I'd love to say "babe, this is my dress what do you think" but it ruins the whole suspense and he'd hate to see it before the day.

My H2B doesnthave a clue what my dress is like and i intend on it staying that way till the day. He wants the surprise and i cant wait to see his face. The dress was one i never thought i would like so there no way he will be expecting it.

I look so different in my dress though, and I am having a viel and tiara, and its a year away yet, so all will be fab, the suspence is still there 100% xxx
