We're having our ceremony at 11.00am, which means the guests should be at the reception venue for 1.00pm and lunch will be served at 2. the thing is, the evening disco will start at about 8, which is also when we'd have a Barbeque Buffet. What I want to know is, is this too much? We do have a lovely venue, and an open bar until 7pm. Will guests be getting bored? Advice please!!! Has anyone been to a wedding like this before?

Hmm, that sounds longer than any wedding I've been to previously... have you anything planned for the afternoon? I suppose if they're having lunch at 2 that'll last till about half 3 - will the speeches etc be at this time of the day? Then it'll be half 3 or 4 o'clock until 8 pm for guests to chat etc. I think you might need to have something on to break up the time a bit.
I know I was at a wedding once which had a civil ceremony by a lake at 1pm. It lasted about twenty minutes and then we all sat in the bar until dinner was served around half five or six. It felt like ages, but that's probably because everyone was hungry, whereas at least your guests will have been fed!!! If it were me I'd have something on in the afternoon to occupy them for a bit, but maybe wait and see what others say and perhaps they'll have different experiences :) :)

Well, I was thinking about evening entertainment but was drawing a blank. The speeches will be with the meal. There is a lovely large garden and lawn that I was thinking about utilising but I honestly have no ideas! We haven't really liked the stuff that we've seen so far, like a charicaturist, magcian, singing waiters... we were maybe thinking some kind of singer/musician, but again this isn't really active entertainment.

No I think that'd be fair enough, it'll give people something to look at!! Love the charicaturist idea too, I'd love one for our wedding :) :) Do you know how they work? Do you just pay them for a certain amount of time and then they draw guests for free??

Yes, you pay them for the time by the hour and then they draw the guests at your wedding, :). If you have an art school near you you should go ask around and see if anyone is upto the job, cheaper than booking through an agency. We know a friend through a friend.

I have been to two weddings that started at 12pm and yes there was a bit of a gap between the day reception and evening reception but noone minded, everyone was milling around chatting and the bride and groom went for 'a bit of a rest and freshen up' i think'
Are you having a three course meal with speeches after? Our venue suggests that this would take approx 2 1/2hrs.If that is the case and you are sitting down at 2 you would be done at approx 4.30pm.We are only having about 3/4 an hour between day and evening reception but had thought if we had a longer gap of maybe a quiz or a treasure hunt as cheap entertainment ideas. xxx

We're having a four course meal. We were thinking pub quiz but wasn't sure if it was too out there. (I'm not that adventurous)

I think the pub quiz would be great and i am sure you can download them off the internet. All you would need is a load of pencils and some answer sheets and someone who is prepared to act as Quizmaster. You could get people to split into teams and perhaps offer a small prize to the winning team.Wish i had the time on my day for one h2b loves a good quiz-he would win though and it would look like a fix lol! xxx

When my mum remarried she had a personalised quiz with questions about her and her husband and the local area. I would enjoy a quiz :-) xx

what a great way to get the most out of your special day,,,,we're not getting married til 4pm and im gutted that i wont get to wear my dress for longer lol!
Google entertainment specialists in your area, most are doing roulette tables, sweetie buffets, chocolate fountains, characturists and much more.
They dont charge too much but if you could get maybe 2 entertainment activities going on in the 4 ish hour time slot that you'll have it would keep people more than occupied :-) xxx

Were getting married at 12:30, so ours will be quite a long day. Was going to look in to the possibilities of maybe booking someone to perform close magic to the guests whilst waiting until 7:30 fir the evening reception to start. xx

Our ceremony is at 11:30am. Wedding breakfast at 2pm. Evening starts at 7:30pm. The all day guests will just go to their rooms in the lull, or the bar. I wanted a caricaturist but h2b didn't want to spend £3-400 on one. The guests will be talking and socialising with each other playing catch up :) x

If you get a good enough band then that would be entertaining enough. My wedding is at 2pm and I wish I could do it earlier as I'm going to have to really squeeze the band in and feel there isn't going to be enough time. The band we've hired is my mates and we've been to see them loads of times, they are really entertaining and get people up to join in on the songs, I've never seen anyone sitting bored at one of their gigs. You should look up good lively bands in your area. Sometimes at wedding fayres they can recommend some. I went to one wedding fayre where they had a band playing every half hour, would of been good if I didn't have a stinking hangover.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

Thanks for the advice guys, :). I'm looking at a swing singer now, and Table trivia. H2B seems to think the guests should be adult enough to entertain themselves with an open bar!

Our wedding is at 12 and we had this problem. We have booked an ice cream trike to come for after the ceremony/ during photo's and put off sitting down for the wedding breakfast till a bit later so that there wasn't going to be such a long gap in-between, we have also got some giant games too. I have to say though that i was at a wedding yesterday where the ceremony was at 3, which was fine but they never had a sit down meal and there was absolutely nothing happening till 7.30. To be fair i did notice quite a few people went home as it just seemed to drag.
