So, I've got an awkward shaped engagement ring but really didn't want a shaped wedding ring, So I've got one to try out. It's only a 2mm band and because I don't have a lot of finger space and a marquise stone it doesn't really sit well.

But then I tried it round the other way and I think it does it look better, it's more comfortable too.

H2B likes it the classic way better so I'm kinda torn. I'd kind of prefer to wear it the classic way so I don't get people going derpaderpaderpa your're wearing your rings the wrong way round.

    What do yous think?

Depends how you want - I started with my 4mm band on the further away from the bottom of the finger like your "better way" and wanted to have it the "classic way" as i heard its tradition.

I now also have a 2mm band (which we actually bought first) on the other side so I have a wedding band either side.

I think at the end of the day, you are wearing these long term, and if the other way is more comfortable, and you are happy with it, that is the way to go :-)

    Thank you GC2B :)

I suppose there's no saying I can't switch it around when/if I want to. The other option is wearing them on separate hands, but I don't know how I feel about that one!

I voted unsure; I don't like the wedding band on top of the e-ring, but, there's a bigger gap the classic way.

What is it about shaped rings you don't like? I asked because IMPO your best option would be to have one made with a slight cut in it, so that they fit together perfectly. You can always then get a plain band as well (I'm doing this: a custom-made shaped-to-fit diamond band to wear with my e-ring, but also a plain band to wear when I'm not wearing my e-ring). But, I do much prefer bands to sit flush.

I voted for "better way" as you say it is more comfortable for you. I don't think there is a right or a wrong way to wear your rings. I wear mine in the order that I was given them, so I have my engagement ring first, as it makes more sense to me than the "traditional" way of wearing them.

You might want to consider doing what they do in mainland Europe - swap the engagement ring to your right hand on your weding day and just have your wedding band on your left hand.

Button-Bell: it's worth getting quotes. I'm having a custom-made band for no more than a standard band would cost on the high-street :-)

You will have to try them on when you get them and see what is the most comfortable way of wearing them. I want to wear mine the traditional way as I don't want to ever take my wedding ring off and I have to take my e ring off for work but at present my e ring is to big so if I can't get it made smaller I will be wearing it the other way x x

I'm actually leaning more towards just wearing them on different hands. I started out intending to do that but then I thought I'd get away with wearing them both together. Spent some time today wearing them on different hands and it's so much more comfortable. Think I'll keep alternating all three options till I settle on one I'm comfortable with!

They just don't look right on separate hands and the truth is when a woman wears them like that to me they just don't seem like engagement or wedding rings.
I once heard that the reason we wear our engagement and wedding rings on our left is because its closer to the heart and I think the symbolism and connection the left hand has in the ritual is more meaningful and romantic no matter how the rings look placed together.

this may sound really stupid... but is it possible to make the top bit a bit 'thinner' so it slips underneath the stone? that way it 'clicks' together??? i dunno but thought its worth sharing an idea? as mine clicks underneath my E ring.
