    Morning Ladies,

Hope you are doing well on this sunny day :)

I am in need of some thoughts and opinions... My h2b has decided he wants a Harry Potter themed wedding. E.g. Table centrepieces, room ceiling, favours, sweet cart. He wants all the invites, save the dates to match this.

Honestly I just wanted a simple wedding one that isnt going to cost to much. His attitude is you only get married once and wants it to be amazing.

My opinion.. there is a fine line between amazing and tacky. I love that he is coming up with ideas but how do I create this with out it turning tacky?

I have looked online for pictures and stuff but it all seems so expensive to do.

Have you chosen your venue yet? If not, choosing somewhere that fits the 'theme' will make it easier and hopefully it won't cost you as much for decoration as it will already look like the dining hall or a castle.

The obvious choice to to name the tables after the houses and colour theme them to suit. I agree you don't want to go too over the top though.

Also remember it's your day too, if you really don't want to go OTT with the theme then tell him! :)

Thanks I did try to tell him but he has gone crazy creative haha.

We have already booked our venue so we are def not changing that. Our wedding breakfast/evening room is a ball room and the tables will be round and I refuse to change the colour from purple. I am not having the bridesmaids and flowers in Red, Yellow,Green and Blue.

There will be 5 round table and the top table for the wedding breakfast.

Purple is a wizzardy colour - right?! Just say you are all in Ravenclaw. :)

Did you ever see the DTTB where he chose Harry Potter as the theme?

It actually wasn't that bad in the end, the bridesmaid's had to wear couloured capes though and they got married in a forrest.

I think you can do subtle theme without having to be all wizards and wands and Hogwarts house colours. Try looking on p1nterest for some inspiration.

I have only read the books, the films didn't interest me. But you could try to recreate Bill and Fleur's wedding that always looked beautiful in my head, and then just throw in a few other HP themed bits, i.e character table names, a sweet cart with the hp sweets maybe see if you could hang loads of fairy lights on the ceiling to try to recreate the great hall ceiling? As for the stationary I would use HP as a base and build on it, so use the coat of arms but adjust it so it's personal to you, and write the invited on what looks like parchment, do you know anyone who is good at calligraphy to make you a prototype which you could have a printers copy? Other than that I would try to be subtle with the theme in some areas i.e the actual ceremony but compromise with h2b in area's where you are less concerned ie table names. Good luck

Love it. That would be so cool.

You Could have table names as spells names, you could have the colour scheme in a certain house colour or all of them together.

You can do just little touches, we are having a sort of game of thrones theme (I say sort of because we are not completely going all out) but the table names are the different castles from the books, we are going to give the best man a hand of the king broach ect. (I wanted a dragon on the cake but I'm not allowed. We also have things thrown in from other things as well though, like a beauty and the beast ornament on the top table... so yeah... maybe not so much a theme really

We are doing a really subtle HP theme intertwined throughout our day. We know not everyone will like it so we are going subtly with details on the cake, table names and things like that so its not completely obvious but we know it's there! I'll attach some pictures below :) x

If you look - we've got little HP elements weaved into the design so if you want the more subtle approach, then it can be done!

With the colour scheme, you could have a more rainbow theme but just with the house colours and if you didn't want it quite so 'bright and obvious', you could do them in pastels!

Thanks everyone for coming back to me.

I am more than happy to comprimise with him on this. I do love Harry Potter as well. we are planning to have our honeymoon in florida so we can go to the Harry potter world at Universal.

I want to keep the ceremony traditional. My bridesmaids will be in all the same purple dresses and the flowers will be while and purple. I don't want a theme here.

I am happy to have the theme for the wedding breakfast & evening do. All of this will be taking place in the one room. We are having afternoon tea as the wedding breakfast to cut cost.

Thanks OwlandtheButterfly I love the cake... subtle I will suggest that to him.

So if we went with Invites/save the dates, Centrepieces, room decoration table names etc just being Harry Potter themed. Not to over the top thats going to break the bank haha

Did try to add pictures of the room we are working with.

i think including the theme just into the areas that you have said is a great idea to keep it subtle. you could have chocolate frogs or bertie botts beans for favours. If you could find some cheap wands there is a couple of good photos you could do as an extra to your standard ones.

are you having a photo booth or anything cos you could have harry potter props for the dressing up. x

haha thanks ladies forgot all about this post. Sometimes he gets a bit carried away.
we are having a photo booth found a great deal for £149 for three hours. I shall pick up some harry potter props or ask if they have any.
We compramised since the wedding cake is half beautiful and half minions/lego lol (in purple not pink) and were having a harry potter themed candy cart.
My centerpieces are going to be tall martini glasses with flowers but we are going to have different tokens that we both love on each table to make it more unique.

So its a bit of a mash up of everything with love and tradition decoration haha fingers crossed it looks ok.
