me and my H2B have found the perfect venue and booked it, however......... we would like it to have a theme, my friend got married in the same place and had a halloween theme which was perfect as her dress was red and i mean RED lol. our venue is in the period of 1700's and my dress and H2B suit is of that period do you think it would be nice to have all our guests in period dress ???? btw some of our guests are on a very low income but it's not for 21 months yet HELP i don't know what to do

i think a period dress would be lovely, if people have plenty of warning, then they can perhaps make outfits up from charity shops or somewhere else bit by bit without actually having to hire any costume. x

I think it's a lovely idea, but maybe you should say that people should 'feel free' to do it, then they don't have to if they don't want. Some people might feel that they can't afford to come, if they have to buy a lot of clothes for it?

funny you should say that Lucie but it was my mum that said it would be a good idea and it would make the photo's look brilliant my side would be ok it's other side that are mainly on low incomes, saying that i'm on a low wage and live alone with my 3 children as H2B has to sell his house b4 we can live together. Venue is in doncaster ( south yorkshire) so if anyone wants to know the addy i ll let you know and it'snot that expensive

We're having a themed wedding. We're getting married on Halloween and are having a halloween/gothic steampunk themed wedding. We will be asking guests to come in fancy dress, but will state thats is optional!

I think its a lovely idea but i'd make it optional as even if people can afford it they may still not be comfortable in it

Good idea, but say it's optional as some people may be uncomfortable doing fancy dress!

    Goff, love your idea!

Oooohhh I LOVE your idea!!! Yes...do that, Id love to come lol!!! Im getting married at Halloween also and having a vintage styled wedding with masquerade reception!

As for the income concerns...in my experience most people tend to buy something new for weddings anyhow, but maybe you should send out invites a wee bit earlier just to give plenty of notice! You could also suggest a list of hire companies that guests can use for their outfits! Only problem I see here is that some people hate dressing up, I have alot of older people attending my day who have self-opted out of wearing a mask for my reception! I respect that given its not everyones idea of fun...but think if majority participate youll have a cracker day and some wonderful photies :) xx

thanks vintage lass i have mentioned it to most of our guests and supprisingly enough all the older guests are up for it (so to speak) lol so maybe its gonna be a hit and as for sending out the invites wont be a problem as we in touch constantly with them all and m,aybe for the younger ones maybe granny mite have some ideas it'snot gonna be that difficult as its mainly an era of lace lol. what im really after but may have to make it myself is a garter but a fur (fake) one but never seen any even on ebay anywell my friend had the halloween theme and it was great as it was bonfire night she married on so was really easy to get hold of the purfect outfit something simple black cloak red blouse black trousers and some flashing horns looked so effective and didn't cost more than £20 so good luck and enjoy yourself. XXXX btw where you getting marrried ?

sounds amazing! mine's a tattoo - twist on the traditional theme, as i am a traditional kind of person but he's not so we're mixing things up :)
i think given time you can whip up a costume out of nothing, maybe finding someone who's good at that sort of thing who is happy to act as a point of contact with people to give ideas and help is always a good thing :) my partner LARPs so is ace at costumes, and would help anyone else, so you might have a granny or aunty who would be helpful for those who are on low budgets or just not as inspired as other people.
making it optional is great, but how would you feel if you opted out and were the only ones to do so :S so to avoid embarassment I would keep in touch we people so if you notice there are one or two not dressed up when the rest will be you can offer encouragement or help :)

hehe just had to have a quick look on the bay to see what sort of price you could get period costume for and if you are clever you cn get it far cheaper than a normal outfit! lace is in fashion at the moment so lots of lace dresses out there. I think you will find people on a budget wont have a problem with it ,i am a mum of 3 and on a strict budget but i would definitely pull something out the bag and i reckon most will feel the same ! it sounds amazing and im now suffering a little wedding jealousy lol defo want to be invited to a wedding like that one day!

One BIG day will lead to lots of little happy days !!

Why don't you ask the venue to see pictures of previous weddings there & see if there are any ideas you want to pinch
