After finding my dream dress for my wedding in seven weeks I arrived at the bridal shop for my first fitting only to find my dress had been ordered in three sizes to small, whilst in tears at my fitting because I couldnt get the dress on the owner of the shop told me it was my fault because I had put weight on when I actually see a nutritionist weekly and had lost weight. I was also told (and I quote) to lay off the lager - I could have laughed this off had I not been in tears and dont drink alcohol.
I have now ordered a new dress which I am quite unsure of and it wont arrive til the week before the wedding.
I have had to fight and threaten legal action to get my money back from the original dress and bridal shop and I am feeling so stressed and want to give up the whole thing.
SOMEONE CHEER ME UP PLEASE XXXX

thats awful hun. i though sales assistants were supposed to be helpful and polite not rude and insulting. my sister got married 2 years ago and had her heart set on a certain style of bm dresses for me and 2 others, but there was only one shop that stocked them. they too were rude and at one point left us standing around for nearly half an hour waiting for our second fitting. they were so stuck up and unhelpful!!!! i'd be jumping for joy if i was on their wages + bonuses. i hope your new dress is perfect for you hun and you have the wedding you've dreamed of x

When my sister got married 6 years ago, she did it in 6 weeks, when we went looking for a dress we went in one shop and were told there was no way we would find a dress anywhere at short notice so should look for second hand. Went to the next shop and the woman was so helpful, we walked away with a dress that day. Some people are so rude, dont know how they get jobs in a shop that sells something so important,

you should have taken off the dress and smothered her with it!!! cheeky cow!!! imagine saying something like that to someone that is getting married in 7 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

really is shocking!! i thought bridal shops we're the place where fairytales were made, but i've heard so many horror stories on here. i'm getting my dress online, but still going out with my bridesmaids on the 7th for the experience. if any of them start with their shite, i doubt me or my bms could keep our mouths shut!!

try not to stress too much about it. the dress you're getting will look gorgeous on you on your big day :)

as soon as the wedding's over, make sure you go onto every online review site you can and completely SLATE their service!! i would even speak to consumer direct to find out exactly where you stand xxx

I cant believe that a lady so bitter would be working in a bridal shop!!

Definately agree with Kisywisy, get all the information you can on what you are entitled to and where you stand.
Dont let yourself get so stressed and worried over the new dress, im sure it will be perfect on the day, when you look back it wont seem as important as it does now.

Hope you get it all sorted <<big hugs>>

Well I managed to get my money back after involving a solicitor and when I went back to the shop to pick up the cheque she almost threw it across the room at me and told me never to set foot in her shop again and that I am a horrible person! But at the end of the day if she thought she was in the right then she would have fought to keep the money!!

Luckily I now have a Jenny Packham delphine dress but it isnt going to arrive until a week before the wedding but thew new bridal shop I am getting it from has assured me they will work day and night too get the dress fitted in time! I just feel so unsureabout the new dress, think its beacause I am so nervous about things going wrong again

    Oh you poor thing!!!

I know exactly how you feel. when i went to my bridal shop originally i thought they were amazing - how wrong was I?!!!

3 months later my £1400 dress arrives - they say they can no longer do the alterations as I wanted my final fitting a week before the wedding due to weight loss (wgich they knew) so I picked it up and took it home to find it had a faulty zip!

Rang them and their response was once it leaves this shop its no longer our responsibility - i think not!!! she had told me when i picked it up they hadnt had it out of the bag from the designer or checked it.

Luckily i have found a seamstress whop is going to replace the zip and i am sending them the bill!!!

Keep your chin up you are not alone in the bad bridal shop experience - Jenny packham delphine is an absolutely beautiful dress and i am sure you will look stunning on your day

well the funny thing is on her 'original' measurement sheet she wrote down that my bust was 44 and a half inches and yet she ordered a size 16 dress, now who the hell with that size bust would get into a slim fitting size 16??

When I saw the dress it had bought at harrogate written on the tag and when I asked my new bridal shop what this harrogate place was she said it is where all the samples are bought from!!!
I think cos I told her I was losing weight that she risked buying a smaller size dress thinking I would be slim enough!!! and did I mention that without my permission and after only be measured once (for trying on not buying I thought) she ordered the dress nine months in advance!!!

This is so ridiculous.... how do businesses that treat their customers like that ever stay in business??? My one bad experience in a bridal shop happened when I was first looking around just for ideas and took my two bridesmaids to look at colours etc. Woman in there was really on one about my weight, was flattering towards the girls because they were both a size 10 but was going on about me needing to order at least a size 22-24 (I was a size 18 then). Fair enough - I know sometimes dresses can come up a bit small so took it on the chin a bit, but she kept on and on about weight after that and was really a bit bitchy. After a while we had all had enough and me and my girls left. One of my daughters made a comment on the way out saying she thought her dresses were all overpriced anyway, and I replied 'ah, but dont forget my darling, with this wedding, money is NO object!'. The womans face just dropped and she gave me one of her business cards (went promptly in the bin down the street!) Now I am fitting into my size 12 dress and would LOVE to go back in and show her but cant because guess what.... the place is closing down! Ha ha .... bit of justice in the world!

    yes what karma hey????

Well I have heard of other brides having problems at this shop and she now has a sign in window saying that all occasionwear is half price plus bridesmaids so maybe she is struggling due to her lack of customer service skills.

She even told me that there were only eleven weeks to my wedding (there were at the time) and that if I laid off the lager I would lose weight and that she could possibly take the dress out an inch or so!!!
What bride needs the pressure of losing such a vast amount of weight (through no choice of their own) so close to the wedding and bearing in mind the dress was inches and inches away from doing up
