I've just found this on a celtic wedding tradition site. I thought it was a really lovely thing to do, as did h2b, so i thought i'd share with you lovely ladies.
The Bell of Truce: The bell of truce is both a charming and useful tradition which can be performed during the wedding ceremony. A bell is blessed and then presented to the bride and groom. The couple is then asked to each give the bell a ring, while thinking loving thoughts of each other and considering their future together. The bell is then kept at home as a reminder of the wedding day and should arguments arise, the bell is rung by either the husband or wife to call a truce. The tinkling sound is there to remind the couple of their wedding vows and to help them relive the happiest memories from their wedding day.

We are doing something similar called "a rose ceromony" which is basically the same thing but with a rose (theres a thread on her e explaining what it is so if you want to know just search it)
I think adding personal touches to the service makes the day even more special and personal.....we have this as well as extra vows that will include the kids

I had heard of the rose ceremony before - in fact i think i read your thread when i first joined the Ukbride, Hails, and thought that was a lovely idea too.
This one caught my eye as it would be perfect for me and H2B as we can both be so stubborn at times - so a noisy reminder of what we promise to each other would be really good.

I'd never heard of this. I know when I made the booking with the registrar, she mentioned something about a candle ceremony and another one. Wonder if these are along the same lines. I won't get to find out until we get the wedding pack in November - why does it seem sooo long away? ;)

Oh i really like this idea - so much better than me saying "feelings" everytime h2b says something that i don't like......might have to see if he will go for this idea and we could get a silver bell inscribed with our names and wedding date xx
