Hi- think I have posted this in the correct category. Just wanted a bit of advice regarding the Pill and honeymoons.

I use the mini pill so have to take it within a 3 hour window or it can lead to starting spotting. So if I usually take my pill at 7am UK time and we are flying to Dominican Republic which is 5 hours behind what do I do? I cant stay up til 2 am everyday.

Can I take one at 7am when we leave here and then take another before I go to bed when we arrive and carry on taking them before bed whilst we are away? Will that cause me harm if I overlap them?

Or do I try to gradually move my taking of the pill later in the day here but then that becomes confusing with time differences and travelling?!

    So confused!!

Speak to your doctor... they'll be able to advise you or provide you with a suitable alternative... you may have to start slowly changing the time you have it at - but seems pointless for a week... why not change to something else before then? the jab/implant etc?? Use condoms otherwise???? I used to be on the pill but it did weird things to my appetite... just use condoms now no snags. Loads of my mates do this too.

Or the coil/IUD? They're quite good - worry free and don't generally mess with hormones... you have time on your side to change but better start now rather than later!

I couldn't stand the mini pill, i'm on Microgynon 30, i can take it everyday doesn't matter what time, then just have a 7 day break in which i come on. If i'm going somewhere/on holiday, you're allowed to skip your break and carry on with the next tab/months worth. with no side effects. So much easier than the mini pill!

Microgynon was what I was on... it wasn't awful, but I do find any hormonal interference affects my appetite and so unless I'm really disciplined(which makes me grumpy) I get chubby! lol! Lost a stone since I stopped taking it... and don't really have to try too hard from my normal routine... x

Really how weird it's never effected me!
Been a size 8 from before i took and still now.
I suppose everything effects everyone differently.
My friend had the implant for example, and it went missing, she didn't realise but it can move and float around your body. She had to have an xray and have it out, as she was wanted to try for a baby 2 years in when it lasts 3. She also found her periods to be all over the place with it.
    All depends on the individual.
Def talk to your doctor about it! If you smoke, have high blood pressure ect all takes effects on different types, so best to be sure (Y)

It's good for most people to be fair... and some people are naturally more disciplined or have other factors that do/dont affect appetite!

It made me very emotional and my periods change so much... so I came off and am like clockwork now, eating and emotions (generally speaking) in control! And less anxious too!

My sister and best friends had the implant and no problems... you need to find what works for you... but if you cant cope with this mini pill and the strange hours you have to take it in then you do need to find an alternative.... or just condoms! (or the unheard of which i won't mention because its your honeymoon and if it doesnt happen id be surprised!!)

Thanks Ladies- I used to have the implant and had the same issues as you friend Lauren. I have to have the mini pill as the full pill would give me migranes. I'll make an appointment had just wondered if anyone else had had a similar issue when travelling.

    Nat x

I would maybe start changing the time you take the pill slightly everyday so it accommodates to you flying out. I'm on Microgynon which I have to take within a 12 hour window, which helps if I go to work forgetting to take it. I'm too forgetful to take mini pills, lol.

You have a couple of options:

    1) Continue taking the pill at 7am, and use condoms while you are there, and for 1 week after you get back.

    2) Change the time you take it. As you have a 3 hour window, you could take it at 8.30am one day, and then 10am the following day, and then 12pm the day after, meaning that when you get to the DR, you'll be taking it at 7am, your usual time. Then when you get back, gradually change it back again

    3) Speak to your doctor about cerazette, as it's a mini-pill, but has a 12 hour window. I'm on cerazette so it's nice and easy when travelling long-haul as I have a bigger window.
