Sorry if this has been covered ladies, I've had a search and can't find what I'm looking for...

My next pill pack finishes at the end of Feb. Our general plan was to take the pill until we get married in April and then stop it. If we do that though I'll have a 'period' due on my wedding day!!

I was wondering if we should just stop at the end of Feb and use condoms until we're married? I've heard that you can take a different pill to temporarily stop your period. H2B isn't keen on a pill for this and a pill for that but I want to have a good wedding night-haha!

Any thoughts or suggestions? I don't want to get pregnant before the big day but we want children asap after we're married. I do know that it can take up to a year to get pregnant after taking the pill so I thought maybe taking the last pill in the pack in February and use condoms until we're ready to try?

    Can't wait to be married!

I would say if you want to start trying straight away then finish your pill at the end of feb, and although many people really don't like having se.x while using a condom it's only a short term thing, and if you and h2b are happy to use condoms for a short time then it would be best. As you get to let your body regulate before really trying to concieve.
But then again it would mean you run the risk if having a period on your wedding day :/
For me personally, when I came off my pill my periods were very irregular, so if that happens to be the case for you, you may not get a period then anyway. Would you be quite regular? It's a hard call to make!

It'll be better if you're going to start trying straight away to stop the pill in Feb - studies have shown if you get pregnant immediately after stopping the pill you're more likely to have Twins as your body over compensates and can release two eggs!

One of our friends stopped the pill 2 weeks before the wedding, and had a baby boy literally 9 months to the wedding date! So it may not take as long as you think, I'm staying on mine until just after the honeymoon as I want to take full advantage of the fully inclusive on our package!

I worry about this too - having the period on my wedding day. I don't take the pill and I really don't want to but if it falls right into the first 2 days.... Horrific day! Apart from the wedding night - run to the toilet every other hour to change tampon in a wedding dress? Cramps? Bad mood? I'd also be totally paranoid about bleeding onto my dress...

I'm staying on my pill for a lil while after the wedding just to make sure I definately dont come on on the wedding day.... I've taken two packs in a row before as I had something important on - cant remember what it was, holiday or something, but my doctor said it was fine to continue to the next pack and then finished after two months rather than the one... That was a couple years back and I am on another pill now where they are contiuous with no gaps so guessing it depends on which pill you're on and what works out better for you...Perhaps have a chat with your doctor and see what they recommend...

Twins?! OMG! Bridalmiss my friend is 12 weeks pregnant and that happened just 2 weeks after stopping the pill.

I think a trip to the docs or the family planning clinic is in order.

I came off the pill a couple of years back, so I have also considered the whole period and white dress issue! I have an 'issue' where I have dodgy ovaries, so I can go for a few months without a period, but then can have a period every other week for a couple of months - fun! So I won't know right up until the wedding if I'll have a period or not. Makes planning children a laugh too, as I was told that I will have trouble trying to conceive, however on the other hand if I do conceive it's more likely to be a multiple birth.

If I was still on the pill though I would definitely run two packs together. As a reassurance, My gynaecologist said it's not a problem to do that, even for longer periods of time.

I have also been wondering this. H2b and I want to start trying straight after wedding, and i had originally planned to stop the pill at end of december cycle and use condoms and see if i can get some sort of cycle, especially as i have been diagnosed as having pcos.
However, the pill that i am on is a stronger hormone pill used to also treat the side effects of pcos such as acne and hot flushes.
I am currently still taking the pill as am scared that if i stop then my acne and hot flushes will flare up badly again :(

You can get norethisterone to delay your period from your gp which you start taking 5 days before you are due on and your period will occur a couple of days after you stop - its still a hormone though if you are not keen on taking more hormones

Running two pill packets together is pretty effective and fine to do - plus bridalmiss makes a very good point - if you are intending on drinking a lot on honeymoon make sure you are properly protected
If you do want to start asap - dont forget to start taking folic acid :)

If your taking the pill where you stop for a week for your period to come, if you start the next pack right away (no break) you wont have a period then you can stop when that pack ends after the wedding? My friend did this when she was away on holiday to stop hers it worked a treat and also her doctor said it was okay as long as you don't do it all the time and if you do it for months in a row its not good, obv because it's not designed for that unlike the other type of pill I'm on where I don't have a break.

Folic acid is a good point - should be taken 3 months in advance of falling pregnant

Thanks ladies! :0) Good to have a place like this to talk about things. I think I'll go and get more packs of the pill in Feb, then take 2 packs together in April and then stop. Folic acid on my list to get for the beginning of Feb. The only thing with that is I'm allergic to Vitamin B3 (Niacin, found in most multivitams) so I'm hoping that I'm not going to have a problem with Folic acid as it's part of the Vitamin B family isn't it?

It is part of the Vitamin B family. It's available to buy as an individial supplement but better consult your doctor.

Hiya ladies, me and H2B were having a chat last night re: me stopping the pill and ttc after the wedding. Ideally i'd like to come off my pill before the wedding to allow my periods to get back regular for when we want to try however i'd hate to come on during wedding/honeymoon so i've decided to carrying on taking the pill until after the honeymoon but i'm going to miss taking my pill on the wedding night (naughty but could work!?) that way we may conceive during wedding/honeymoon but if we don't i would have only missed one pill so shouldn't have any period and can continue to try once home.

Just an idea if any of you in a similiar position is interested :0)
