I am just so angry - Half the songs we have asked for the organist to play the vicar has said he cant play I have a choice of three songs!! Which i really dont like. So I asked if my friend could play she could play she is a bit nervous but said yes!! So wnet back to vicar and we needs an additional 66 pound for the organist not to play - I just cant believe it.. He cant play the song but still wants paying!! How is that fair??

Has anyone else had this trouble??

I promise its written in black and white then I phoned to double check they hadn't made a mistake!! I was just didnt know what to say and said I would speak to H2B but I wasnt happy about this xx

Oh that sounds like they are taking you for a ride. How can they charge you to not have the organist and like you say its not like he can play the things that you want in the first place. I would not be a happy bunny and would be back onto the vicar asking him how he can sleep at night because I'm sure God would not approve of them trying to make money out of you like that.

Well my church is doing the same thing, although I am not being charged for the church or anything, it is in the orgainst's contract that things that happen in the church she will be paid for (£35), even if you don't want her to play. And if you want someone else to play it's £50 so she can practise with the other music! Madness!

How can they justify it though? Its like saying that the mods should get paid every time we log into UK bride regardless of if they are here or not. (don't get ideas mods). You don't pay someone for a service they are not providing. Even more so if it is their role in the church then they should be able to play more than three bl00dy hymns! Why should they get paid to do a job they clearly can't do?

that is shocking why should you pay for something your not having its awful im sorry but think church's sometimes take the pee ive gotta end up paying around £900 for my church yes its beautiful but everyone elses seems to be quite a bit lower!!

I totally agree Jo, it's a farse. But to be honest the only church costs we have are the organist and care taker (for opening the church!) so I don't really mind, if I had to pay church fees on top of that I woudn't be a happy camper!

Yes I put a thread on here about the organist charging us due to wedding etiquette even tho we don't want her and having somebody else. She is a dreadful organist - think Les Dawson!
We're paying both organists and cutting down the church donation! Ridiculous! x

i remember a thread on here a while ago and another bride to be and she had to pay for the organist not to play. does seem stupid though but i can understand it if the organist doesnt have another job and by not playing they are losing money.

i do agree though that it is stupid! xx

How ridiculous! If the organist can only play three songs they're not a very good organist are they? Two months seems like a decent amount of time to learn more- its not like they're composing them.

phewww thank goodness our organist is a genious........some if the instrumental stuff we wanted i thought i had to put it onto cd then couple of weeks ago after church i had a word with him and he played the instrumentals for me even offered to play a medley during the signing of the register.......so i do hope you are able to sought something out wtih your organist

can you not get married in another church with an organist that knws wha he is doing i would speak to he vicar again and be blunt saying why am i paying for an organist that only knows 3 song thats not good enough if you no great atatchment to the church then i would look at others xxxxx ps my spelling is awful i know sorry xxx

Thats daft. Surely the organist knows more than just 3 songs!!! They cant sing the same 3 songs at the services over and over again, the congregation would get very bored! Theres hundreds of songs in a hymn book!

ha- some church organists are rubbish.

and it's a thing in the contracts for churches- the organist and bell ringers are allowed to charge even if they don't play. most of them don't bother to because it's harsh.
And to be fair- most churches aren't fussed whether you get married there or not unless you're a member of the congregation.
What i'd do is ask to speak to the organist. ask them if they know any other pieces of music that would be good- other than the 3 songs.

i hope it sorts out! churches can be a pain sometimes :-/

I threw a few of my toys out of my pram and they have agreed to change the organtist to the step in one or somthing. I have heard her play before and she is really good.

I hate to say it but when I was all nice and sweet about it noting got done than I got angry and it all changed.. I didnt quite get why when I was nice they didnt sugguest this in the first place..

Anyway its all sort and H2b and both families are happy.
