hi i live in manchester and h2b has mentioned getting married in the lakes, only problem being that we'd have to stay a good few days and go down on weekends to plan the wedding as its about a 2 hourdrive , but it is also beautiful there, is it worth it? and does anyone know any good venues there?

Can't really tell you much about venues other than the Lake District is definitely beautiful! But we are organising a wedding in Ireland despite living in Scotland so if you find a place you both really love then go for it, you'll manage it and it'll be worth it :)

Sorry I don't know of any venues but I do agree with you it is so beautiful there. I want to go for a little minimoon after the wedding there.

Kimmiebridetobe is getting married in the lakes and she doesnt live there so have a word with her about how easy/difficult the planning is! As for venues there are some stunning ones there but my fav is The Inn on the lake (kim is getting married there I think) I have a few surppliers who are based in and around the lake district so if you want anything add me as a friend and I'll pass over some links for you!
Enjoy planning and welcome to the site

For it was not into my ear you whispered, but into my heart
It was not my lips you kissed, but my soul.
We're getting married 2 hours away from our home too, we live in Liverpool & Blackpool, and are travelling to Gretna Green Scotland. I definately think the drive is worth it if it's to somewhere you really want to get married, you will always wish you had, go for it, we couldn't decide whether to get married in the Lakes or scotland, but scotland won out. Both are stunning places to get married. Good luck and enjoy your planning, we're loving it x

I am staying at a really cute looking hotel with my husband to be for our minimoon after the wedding. We are staying in Windemere at a hotel called Applegarth Villa I think. We are planning to go to Australia and New Zealand in 2013 for our proper honeymoon but cant afford to do that this year. Don't know about good venues for actually getting married I just know that anywhere in the Lakes would be a fabulous venue, anywhere with a lake view especially. Have fun planning and looking xx

I live in the lake district and would definately say it would be worth it. There are so many lovely hotels and manor style houses you can get married at, google weddings in the lake district and there will be plenty x

I live in the Lakes and am getting married here in 2 years time, so we're looking for venues at the moment. We had a look around the Newby Bridge Hotel this weekend, and it's lovely. :) It's got lake views and a nice traditional style, but it's just on the tip of the lake, so doesn't come with the same massive price tag as a lot of them do! Also, the reason I fell in love with it is that their bridal suite is a free standing "rotunda" in the garden, and it's just gorgeous! It can also be used as a ceremony room as well if your do is going to be a small one (unfortunately ours isn't). It's definitely worth having a look around if you are thinking of getting married up here. Hope this helps. :)
