What do you think is a reasonable price for the dress.

I've fallen in love with a dress which recommended price is under £1,400. Obviously haven't shown my fiancé but he has said how he thinks under £1,000 is the limit....

I'm not trying any dresses on until March, but surely I'm better off going for one which is more expensive but which I love rather then not feeling like I'm in the dress for me. You never know though I might try it on and hate it on me.

I'm especially annoyed as when I first saw it I swore it was in the lower price range category

I went to a wedding fair last year and fell in love with an enzoani dress that was £1600 (pics in my album), but although I loved it, I just couldn't justify. I set a budget of about £800 but since then we've started fertility treatment so run the risk of expecting on the day. This has made me reevaluate what's more important, so I'm off with my mam tomorrow to have a look at monsoons new range which is stunning, and all under £500.

It's entirely up to the individual though, some people compromise on other things to get their dream dress. I thought that the dress would be the most important thing to me, but it's infact the least now, marrying the man I love is the most important and getting our much awaited for family x

We haven't actually properly set out a budget for the dress, which is probably something we should do. But we haven't got a full on budget for everything, we have a number which we know we can afford no matter what (money we already have in savings) and then are planning on putting any extra money away so we can get any little extra's we may want or a better honeymoon ect.

I've not looked at dresses properly yet, but looking online I saw that one and all I know is its under £1,400. It's from the alfred angelo range, so until I go into the shop and see it I'm not going to know what price they're charging. I'm just going by the number of bells it had on the website (but when I was first looking I thought it had 2, now it def has 3)

When I say he thinks under 1k, he's not really said, but he did say he'd be happy if it were around £600-£800, but over £1k seems a bit much.

I first said under £1k but the dress I want is over £1k its £1,400 to £2,000 pounds in the shops or I can try get the dress for under £1k like £400 or under But I can't trust the quality and where its coming from and if the lace will be the lace for the actual dress I will like. I am very specific on lace I want not being to much. Now I've realized that I only want to go with them now and get my Dream wedding dress=D <3 X

I would suggest setting a budget for your dress otherwise it's easy to get carried away and then costs can spiral.

Then only try on dresses up to your budget, that way you're not tempted or disappointed.

Also consider sample sales. My dress was a shop sample, it was £1500 full price and I got it for £999 because the owner had decided to not stock that designer anymore which was lucky for me as it was a case of making up my mind at the right time, good job I took almost 4 months to make up my mind!

Mine was £1400 but my mum has paid... I critisised my friend (in my head) for spending £1100 on hers but now I fully understand why.. I made the mistake of not looking at prices before I tried dresses on..

If I were you and you do have to set a budget then I'd stop looking online, just go to dress shops and look at the price FIRST, then only try what's in your budget.. Can't fall in love with what you haven't tried on..

However if you can afford more then do it.. The way I feel in my dress is worth every penny in my eyes xxx

Laura I was at the shop your goin to try for dresses and there was a stunning one for £59!!!!! I couldn't believe it. They had about 30 dresses in the sale rail. Most of them are gorgeous. Defo worth checking. I live in newcastle so don't know if the shop in your area will have a sale on them but I can't see why not.
I've already got mine and it cost £800. My parents are paying for it but I felt really bad picking one that expensive but they told me they were paying for it after I picked it.

Remember to add on costs for other bits like alterations, hoops (if you want a big dress) jewellery, shoes, underwear, veil, tiara etc when you are thinking about your dress budget as these can all bump it up! My budget was £700 and I was determined that I wasn't going to go above that but I saw a dress on a manakin in the shop and had to try it! Of course if turned out to be the one and was more expensive at £945 and then £135 for alterations. I said no because it was too expensive and while I was changing out of it my mum put down the deposit on it and said she would pay as she couldn't imagine me in any other dress now. I also got the veil that was supposed to be £150 thrown in for free! Xxx

I budgeted up to £1000 for my dress, but the one I chose was actually £1200. It was more of a soft limit, but nothing else I tried on felt the same, and I found I was comparing others to it so I knew it was the one. I had a hard limit of £1500. Also I knew I was going to have the dress dyed and converted into an evening gown afterwards so it was never going to be just for the one day.

Go try it on, but have a hard limit in mind!

i think it depends on your priorities for your big day. whats more important to you? the dress or venue or other things? to me the dress was very important so i didnt have a budget and i knew that whatever dress i fell for was the one i would get. mine was £1420 which was a lot less than i thought from trying the dress on so was surprised. if you have fallen in love with an expensive dress and you want it you can make cut backs in other areas. if other things are more important then choose a cheaper one or try and find a second hand one x

I didn't set a budget for my dress, but I knew it was going to go over a £1000. So anything under that would be fine to me. I've found the perfect dress which is £800, but the train is cathedral length which I will get altered, which I was told would cost another £60. I think it just all depends that picture you've always had in your mind of how much you'd like to spend for your perfect dress. x

There is no budget for my dress too, i have told my OH how much the dress is that i have seen (1200) but the shop has designer days where there is 20% off so i'm waiting for one of those to come up again before commit to buy it full price..i do believe it's the one! (Dont wanna keep looking incase i change my mind) i'm waiting til august/september to buy though as im hoping it will go down in price as it will have been out for a year...
If you love it and you know it's the one then you should get it, maybe try save on something that is less important if the dress is pricey?

I don't see the harm in haggling and seeing if i can get a deal on accessories and veil etc, at the end of the day i could find this dress in another shop and then she'll lose my sale so it's worth a try to either get a good deal or haggle them down!

I definitely couldn't imagine spending more then £1400 on the dress (especially without alterations) so I do have a upper limit I suppose. We've looked at out budget and think I could afford that with everything else we want, but it's just if we've forgotten anything or if there's any other hidden costs really.

I wish my appointments for trying on were sooner then March :( but my bridesmaids will be up then, think it will be nice to at least have my first shop out with them and my mum.

Donna... I think for your first appointment u should just take one person, maybe your mum or just one of your bridesmaids, as too many opinions can cause problems! It did for my sister and she ended up giving up that day, made her doubt herself, and then just took one friend the next time she went and found her 'one'

Just dont try on any dresses above your limit. I tried a designer dress on just for the fun of it. I had no real intention of spending suxh an mount on a dress i will only wear for a couple of hoirs. Problem was as soon as i saw it on o fell in love. No other dress compared and i was in a rush to find a dress in a limited time. So i ended up buying it. I love it. However cost a lot more than the original china dresses i was looking at.

All i said to myself was...i will look at these photos every day for the rest of my life. I will be happy to know that i had the dress of my dreams. So i brought it. I doubt i will regret it.

I might go before March with my mum then, just to browse some dresses and maybe get an idea on style.

I don't know if having my bridesmaids there would cause conflict as they actually have very similar taste (I sent my mum and both my bridesmaids pictures of dresses and they all preferred the same one.) but I appreciate the advice and I'm not going to turn my nose up at the chance to look at some dresses earlier with my mum ;)

I think what counts as a reasonable price is relative to your budget.

I personally just couldn't justify spending all that money on one dress for one day, I found an amazing sample dress for a fraction of the list price on the internet. We're really having to tighten the belts for this wedding so my extravagance really was the photographer.

Bleedin' suits and bridesmaids dresses are gunna end up costing a flamin' bomb though. Ugh.

I have seen some nice bargains online, but don't want to miss out on the experience of going into the bridal shops and also I'm very frightened of buying online and it not being right or not fitting right. I have no idea what suits me :(

We got our suits really cheap, offered a deal at a wedding fayre, over £100 cheaper then anywhere else we'd seen so gone for them. We're hiring but that's more of a reason to get them as cheap as possible for nice one's.

No idea where to start looking for bridesmaid dresses.
