As you all know i will be having a civil partnership. So many of our women friends think that one of us should be wearing a white suit.
Now, i dont know about you but isnt this now SOOO cliched and passee. This may have been done at the beginning of civil partnerships but now it seems they are trying to compensate for a lack of bride, but thats just the point, there will be no bride, so why try to imitate one. Seems really tacky to me. What are all your thoughts?

I would say wear whatever you like. If you and your partner have different sense of styles i wouldnt even wear matching suits. You want to be you at your best & you want to wear something that you feel special in. If thats a white suit - great. if not then get down to Armarni!

I agree with you, what is the point in trying to compensate for a bride! My friends got married in May & one wore grey & the other black then another two of mine last year wore exactly the same navy suit's. Have not seen one in white yet but each to their own! Wear what you feel your happiest with x

Yes i do feel that one wearing a white suit kind of defeats the object and its like all the woman i know i trying to 'create' a bride. Its not my choice, but they are rather annoying me with their insistent opinions. They cannot seem to see how cliched it is.

Get this - one of them wants their daughters to be a bridesmaid!!!!! WTF Please agree with me how rediculous and stupid that is lmfao

It's your day, wear whatever makes you happy, your friends should support you either way.

There's no point having a surrogate bride! =)

I must admit that i have a paticular dislike of white suits,i have yet to see one that doesn't look cheap and tacky but then thats just me. Wear whatever makes you feel special. My h2b is wearing a dark blue with lilac striped Paul Smith suit because he loves it and i will not be dressing to 'match him' lol x

I'm really not a lover of white suits, I think a beautifully tailored suit looks so much nicer and if us brides get to have exactly what we want and have it made to fit us perfectly why shouldn't you guys get to have just what you want too!
If I were you I would nod and smile along when they are all making their "suggestions" and then make your own decision as turn up on the day wearing what you feel best in!!
You will always look your best in something you love!
    X

hey at the end of the day the golden rule of planning a wedding or civil partnership is that its our day your way so whether or not you want to wear the white suit is really up to you. if you dont want to then dont wear something you are comfortable in suit colour as you are wearing it all day.

white suits are ok, had to convince h2b he wouldnt suit it an would look like a matchstick if he wore it lol x

tbh i think that anyone who try to inflict their choices on you doesn't have your best wishes at heart who do they think they are .....

Think you have made a good point lala. Its obvious they are trying to turn it into what they want it to be or what they think it should be.
One of them has announced she is going to organise it!!! Dont worry she isnt, I told her in no uncertain terms. Get the feeling if they organised it, it could turn into a bit of a circus for their own amusement.
It makes me wonder if there are still some around that sub-consciously dont see it as a proper wedding, as this wouldnt happen with a regular wedding, which makes me think its not taken seriously and is more for their entertainment.

I was thinking something in navy with cream waistcoat and cream cravat, will try and find some pics.

Oh no, you dont want to end up looking like Randall and Hopkirk lol. And as for a bridesmaid, why is there a need for one when there's no bride. Tell them all where to go, its your special day not some sideshow for their amusement. I would tell them you have a wedding co-ordinator (even though you have'nt) then they might get the message, their input is'nt required.

Wow, thats awsome, she is a lovely lady.

And Higginzajac, yes my next door neighbour got married in a black wedding dress and he had the dreaded white suit, they looked bloody ridicolous though. She looked like a BBQ'd Miss Haversham and he looked as though he'd been emulsioned. Then the stretch Hummers turned up and they proceeded to pose for photos next to an overflowing wheelie bin, need I say more than Tacky!!!

Going back you comment earlier re your guest announcing she is organising your wedding and how this wouldn't happen at a regular wedding a) complete cheek of her, I really hope you put her in her place :-) and b) my stepmum is doing similar to me and saying I should have a massive jordan-esque dress which just is not me (nothing wrong with that style of dress just would not suit me) someone else has told me I cant wear white as I have a baby! I just nod, smile and ignore it. Wear and do whatever you want on your day! xxx

LMFAO Xbox thats just pricelss. CLASSY! I bet the best dressed thing WAS the wheelie bin lmfao.

Emma yes she did just announce and oh yes, she was squarely put in her place! She likes black, so probably would have ended up with black everything (exept my white suit which she wanted of course). She only likes chicken so you can imagine what the menu would have been, chicken ice cream.......ay dont sink so.

Your'e both right actually,. the way around it is to just nod, smile and then completely and utterly ignore it.
