    Hi girls,
I have a problem with favours ! We are doing lottery tickets/scratch cards for the 16 years + guests and activity packs for the unders 10's but we have 6 x 12-15year olds that at the moment have no favours at all. I don't want to spend more than £15-£20 to get the favours for them. (all together, not each!)
Have any of you had this problem ?? Help !!
    Thanks !

I went into a big toy shop the other day and they had travel games like cluedo, battleship, connect four and monopoly at half price (£3.50) so got them for my teens at the wedding and I will also get them either waterstones or hmv vouchers, what about something like that?

    3 boys, 3 girls..

I had thought about the packs of make up/nail varnish for the girls.. You can get 3 for 2 in Boots/Superdrug sometimes can't you ? And also from Claires ? I had thought about getting a set of earrings each as they all have their ears pierced and they're not expensive.. What about that ??

It's the boys I'm really stumped on.. One will be 3 months off 16 and I feel mean not giving him a lottery ticket/scratch card, but I don't want to break any laws on my wedding day !!
The travel games sounds a good idea as 2 of the boys will have younger siblings sat with them to play but one of them wont..
I don't want anything as expensive as vouchers.. And they're not really aftershave types of boys if that makes sense..

There will be sweets in bowls already on the tables, plus don't want any arguments over the older one getting sweets and not the younger (I know my how my cousins argue ! Lol)

Any other ideas would be great :-)

    Thanks !!!

I say give them the scratch cards, if they win anything their parents can cash it in or they can redeem them in 3 months. I remember being at that age and getting kids gifts or being sat at the kiddies table and it was always so frustrating/insulting.

Yeah that's exactly what I thought ! I hated being seen as a child at 14/15..
Although, I don't want to give the 12year olds a scratch card.. I'll make an exception for the 15 year old and 2 x 14 year olds I think..

Now left with 2 x 12 year old boys..
I'll definitely get the 12 year old girl earrings now I think..

Also, what age do you all think activity packs should be up to ? They will have a dot-dot book, a wordsearch book, a mini puzzle and another varied activity book.. How old is too old ?? Bored kids are naughty kids and I don't want them moaning through the speeches.. At the moment I'm giving them to 10 and unders...

    Thanks !

I'd be tempted to set up a power strip somewhere so they can plug in their electronic devices if they're bored and out of power. The last wedding I went to the tweens were all dialed into their smartphones during the 'boring' parts of the meal.

Not a bad idea ! The last wedding we went to, we downloaded a film for my then 5 year old stepson and he watched that during the speeches.. He was more than happy ! I know for a fact my H2B's cousin will bring her sons portable DVD players for the speeches as she has for the last 2 family weddings we've been to..
Do I add in a note to the invitation saying there will be power supplies for such things ? Just so they know to bring them if they want ?

Yeah I'll put it on my website..

I've just noticed you're getting married in 30 months.. Have to say, it's quite refreshing to 'know' someone that isn't getting married before me !! Everyone seems to be getting married lately and getting pregnant too.. It's getting very tedious haha !
People I know seem to manage to get engaged and married within a year / year and half, while me and my H2B have already had to cancel our wedding last July because of cost ! And now have to wait another 2 and a bit years.. We'll have been together nearly 6 years by time we get married..

NGH I'm getting married this year but by the time the wedding day comes around we will have waited for 2 years since we got engaged and been together 6 years. Its so frustrating when you see new couples get together, get engaged and married within a year!!!

sita_meena - Someone I know got married, new car, new house, got pregnant, had the baby and got another new car all between September 2011 and January 2013.. Granted they get a lot of benefits and help from her Grandad, but still it makes my blood boil !!

We'll have waited 5 years since we got engaged.. Should've been 2 years engaged for the wedding last July but the venue really screwed us over ! So now we're getting married in July 2015 instead !

4 months away, you must be so excited :-)

Yeah have had that already but we've said that there's more than enough time to book off work and its in the school holidays as H2B is a teacher!

Lots of looking around for venues for 2 years then found somewhere (once we had the money) and everything else seems to falling into place :) gave our notice on friday xx

As long as it suits you :-) Ours worked out better on a Saturday anyway as H2B's work is very strict when it comes to holiday days, max. 10 days April-September.. Which obviously we want for our honeymoon ! Hopefully will be able to have all his suit fittings on weekends or else they'll dock his money..

Awww sounds perfect :-) The venue we chose for our first wedding was gorgeous, but they really let us down.. Going for a more detailed chat with our new venue on Wednesday so we'll see if they live up to their first impressions.. Luckily they accept provisional bookings and don't want a deposit just yet :-) I can pretty much guarantee that we'll be putting it down this week though, so can't wait :-)

My cousins was a Thursday and my H2B niece's was on a Tuesday and everybody left by 9-10pm because they had to be up the next morning..
H2B niece was 30 something weeks pregnant so was shattered and glad hers had finished early,
but my cousin got all stroppy about everyone leaving hers early.. xx

Thats a shame that your H2B's work is so strict!! I really am lucky to be marrying a teacher although at the same time that restricts us to only doing something in the school holidays and going away in the school hols is sooooooo expensive!

I hope your venue is absolutely amazing and that you have an awesome day hun :)

We had a different venue last year and had a provisional booking for may then we went to give our deposit and they said sorry they had double booked the day and given the date to the first couple (which apparantly wasn't us!) but it all worked out for the best as we found this venue and love it sooooo much more and the package we have gone for is so much better

I know !! They're a lot worse than just that believe me !
Ooo I can imagine ! My SiL is a teacher and her and my bro have trouble affording anything unless they book really really early on !

Thank you :-) I'm hoping Wednesday goes really well ! We haven't had much wedding luck so far :-/

Oh thats rubbish :-( We went to see our old one and fell in love, rushed to get in the deposit because they were having an orangery built and if we booked at that time, the prices would freeze at £1500 venue hire rather than the £4000 it would be going up to once it was finished.. Just short of a year later, we went for the proper 'quote us' meeting, told her our numbers, food options etc... Waiting a few days checking my emails every 10minutes for the quote lol.. It came through at just over £9000 !! We went in to question it and they denied all knowledge of the 'price freeze' they'd agreed with us, they said they don't bump their drink prices for weddings but at what normal hotel do you pay £3.50 for a fizzy apple juice ?!?!?! And just many other things like that.. I was absolutely gutted.. That was May 2011, and we've only just started to properly look into everything again this year, we needed to get July 13th 2012 out of the way and then it still felt too much..

I am glad it happened in a way.. It means that we can go on our first ever abroad holiday this year and now we have found a better, more welcoming venue this time around.. I'm just alot more cautious now, I will be throwing every question under the sun at them before we put the deposit down !

I hope everything keeps falling into place and that your day is absolutely perfect for you :-)

We were together 4 years b4 getting engaged and then another 4 years b4 getting married!! So no rush 4 us although we have booked the venue & planed the wedding in 6 months :0)
As 4 kids/teenagers at wedding I think it's rude that the older 1's b playing wiv their games at the wedding, they should b older enough 2 understand not 2 play up and their parents should tell them not 2 anyway!! I can understand younger children being bored but again it's down 2 the parents surely! At my wedding we r only having 4 kids, my niece who is bridesmaid and b 11 and my 3 nephews who b 9,11 & 14 and we not getting them anything 2 keep them entertained, as i think they r old enough 2 understand... However thought maybe the game thing in the evening as then I would understand them getting bored & playing up a bit!! X

nadia13 - The majority younger ones are all under the age of 7, I remember how boring weddings were when I was that age.. I think you're right about being old enough to understand, but regardless, I'd rather they at least have something to do.. And my cousins kids listen to them once in a blue moon, so I'm taking it into my own hands to keep them behaving Lol.. It's mainly for the speeches cause one things for sure kids are rarely bored while there's food about haha..

If it were up to me, no kids under the age of 12 would be coming, but I have a big family so that isn't an option unfortunately.. If we were inviting friends as well (which we're not) their kids wouldn't be invited.. x
