she probably wont do that cos the weight of the fruit cake squishes the sponge... we're having sponge then fruit then sponge but on a cake stand so it wont affect them. x

If you had a stand instead of the layers tiered on top of each other you could have it that way. Otherwise with the fact that fruit is so much dense and heavier if you put fruit on top of of sponge you would squash the sponge.

H2B auntie is a cake maker so she's making ours. We're having three tiers and a cutting bar. I can't remember now what they're made of. Think it was fruit and the cutting bar is sponge. She makes such gorgeous cakes.

when you make the tiered cakes, the cakes are not supported by the tier beneath, each tier of the cake is made on a board, and then the board is supported by dowels, which are sunk into the tier below, so the actual weight of the individual tiers are resting on the wooden dowling.
maybe your cake maker is trying to keep the cost as effective as possible for you and less faffing around for her, she can make all the tiers at the same time, from one batch if you know what i mean. xx

we're having 3 different flavoured sponge layers (baileys, chocolate and lemon) all covered in yummy chocolate. I'm trying to convince h2b that the biggest tier needs to be baileys lol x

bought a 4tier cupcake stand so placing my cupcakes on there (making me own) going to do a small cake probably chocolate or toffee depends what h2b prefers... would love a chocolate fudge :D but will bake also the small cake for cutting the cake myself but i might ask my mum to do it for me as i reckon its nicer as a little surprise... hmmm need some cake topper i guess...

We are having a 3 tier fruit cake for one of our wedding cakes and tbh I was quite surprised how heavy even the middle tier was, so need to put dowels under the pillars. My MIL2b bought hollow pillars and is going to have to get solid ones as they cakes would just sink, lol. Also having cupcakes with a top tier made of sponge from my mum, so need to get a stand for them! Keep forgetting! :) x
