Do your research throughly and know how much everything will roughly cost then work out if anyone is contributing and how much and how much realistically you can both save per month and then should give you an idea of when you can afford it. I agree if you are booked then you will save as something to work towards but you also need to make sure you can afford it too.

Yeah marquees are expensive as you may have to organise cateering, table hire, chair hire, etc yourselfs or at least add it on the cost....

Thing is I wasnt going to do a sit down meal, we were going to have a bbq and buffet and tbh Ill probably get my family to make everything for the buffet and my sil is making our cake, and I am going to make all the invitations and favors lol so that all saves money, luckily I am good friends with a photographer so hoping Ill be able to save money there too which is why I kind of wanted to book the marquee as was thinking if we didnt do the sit down meal surely we shouldnt need tables and chairs for everyone?? .. or am I just being silly? x

    go for it hun....
like others have said make sure you do your research & you know roughly what you want etc :) get lots of different quotes too..
You might need all tables & chairs for people who would rather sit down & eat instead of stand :) people can always move them afterwards for the evening :)

Its amazing if you ask what talents people have and willing to help with and save costs.

Are people going to stand up all day? I think the marquee may look massive and bland without tables and chairs in it.... maybe you could use hay bails? What are you drinking? Are you going to provide alcohol, bring their own or hire a bar?

I think if you are going to worry about money you will never get round to booking it. You can always book it so far in advance that it gives you plenty of time to pay things off.

I think you would probably still need table and chairs for everyone even if you are not doing a sit down meal.

lol .. I was gonna get tables and chairs to seat about 60/ 66 which means that there will be more than half the amount of people able to sit down just wasnt going to get chairs for everyone, didnt even think of hay bails tbf :-) love this forum! .. I wanted to do festival theme so guess the bails would work in well .. I cant decide about the bar .. if I was to hire a bar would the alcahol come with it? x

We went to a wedding and they used hay bails instead and put blankets over them so didnt itch your legs and it worked really well... the theme was countryside so did barn dances and stuff but cheaper alternative. You would need to research the bar as will probably come with alchol but double check.... have you thought about a village hall/social club? They can be relatively cheaper and some are really nice inside and then you can have the freedom to do your own buffett but already ahve the table/chairs and bar?!

You do need a budget though honey otherwise your book, book, book and pay deposits out then realise what you have left to pay?! Our budget is only an estimate but means i know i have to save £400 a month and if i buy something over budget then i have to save a little bit more so ends meet as you dont want to panic a month before the wedding xxx

ah right.... Ask with your family & friends & see whether they could help you etc with cake, transport, the buffet..
look on the bay of E too to help make the invites etc... check sales for bmaid dreses/wedding dress/fg dress... be realistic with the amount of bmaids your going to have as the more you have the more its going to cost.

Yeah it would defintily save money. My mum cattered her own wedding and contacted local suppliers for discount if buying bulk, went to a local cheese factory directly and brought from them, brewed their own elderflower champagne and then went to France and filled up the car with wine and beer to save hiring a bar?!

They don't need anything big hun, we were having day and evening people then due to money, we found it cheaper to invite them all for the whole day. I found a lovely poem on the internet and printed them off on parchment paper then tied them up with our colour ribbon. I've made 150, inc extras, of them and it only cost me £8.56.... cheap as chips lol xx

That's the best way lol, we're putting them into Chelsea bags I got from the megastore and handing them out to each family after our speeches. Im guna do the sweet cones for the kids with little footballs in. Just got to think of a little something else to bulk the bag out..... saw some candles in the 99p shop so was think of doing them with a sticker on them or something.

I did think about putting the scrolls in a wicker basket on the wedding box table telling everyone to take 1 as they posted our cards and wrote in the guest book if that helps? xx

I love her daughter to bits but tbh dont feel like she thinks the same about my kids and she HATES the fact I have other friends .. its all too much of a headache .. gonna put the kids to bed, open a bottle of breezer and re think this wedding stuff hehe :-) x
