Bicarbonate of soda - it's in the baking section of any supermarket!

I'm gonna give this a try too, have tried several of the diy home kits and they are a waste of time and money. Did think about having them whitened but if this works I could save some money.

    Will let you know xx

Bicarb soda lightens hair, cleans surfaces and stains really well so I am in no doubt that it would thoroughly clean teeth - but what about naturally yellow teeth? Any experience with that ladies?

I don't smoke, never drink red wine and have cut down on tea and coffee big time - but my teeth have always been yellowish, it's my natural shade :-(

Speaking as an ex dental nurse, the only thing that is truly going to whiten your teeth is peroxide and needs to be done by a dentist, the bicarbonate of soda will have a mild whitening effect on some people but on others does nothing at all. As for these cheap kits steer clear ladies, nothing but a waste of money. But be aware any form of whitening makes your teeth sensative so if you already have sensative teeth bear this in mind. My dentist does teeth whitening for £160 so shop around, just because one has quoted £400 does'nt mean they all charge the same, they can charge different rates. Also if you have crowns or white fillings no form of whitening will change the colour of these, you would have to have your white fillings replaced after the bleeching session to get them to match. Hope this helps ladies!

Unfortunately you have just confirmed my fears xbox widow - I never had my teeth whitened because I have a crown at the front which I always thought wouldn't whiten in the process. :-(

My dentist back home in Austria used to be my dads good friend and when I was around 16-18 I wanted my teeth bleached and bith together wouldn't allow it because he (the dentist) considered it as harmful. He put in said crown when I was around 21 and obviously it's matched to my more yellowish teeth.

I've just used bicarb - I didn't want to use the granules straight onto the teeth because of being too abrasive - I disolved 1/4 of a teaspoon (baking unit) in little warm water to make a paste and brushed with this - the taste doesn't phase me but that's because I use Corsodyl toothpaste which contains bicarb soda anyway. I am used to the salty taste and I actually prefer it to regular toothpaste - when I run out and use h2bs toothpaste I find it horrendously sweet and teeth don't feel as clean.

My h2b drinks gallons of tea and coffee the whole day and smokes like a chimney but has pearly white gnashers - not fair! :-)

does anyone know the name of the american strips that were mentioned earlier in the tread? can you please post them on my wall so that I could look into getting them. Im gonna give the bicard thing a try and am booking myself in for a proper dentist clean and polish before the wedding. hopefully that will be enough to help lighten my teeth. I dont want to have to pay a fortune at the dentist if i dont need to. x
