hey everyone i just wanted to help really:) , so basically im quite heavily tattooed (Arm sleeve, knuckle tattoos and fair few more) :),
i love my tattoos and my HB is also heavily tattooed too so we don't see them as a big deal just part of us , but my mother keeps saying i need a dress with sleeves to cover them, next year i am being a bridesmaid for my aunty (mothers twin sister) and im happy to cover them for my aunty since its her wedding , but i feel for my own if i choose a wedding dress that shows them then its my choice, my mum thinks people wont like to see them ect but iv asked my friends and Hb couldn't careless , how do i get the message across that i will show them if i want to without causing drama? either way i will do what i want but i could really do without any fallout

    Thanks guy any advice helps

    Hi Rebecca!!

DO NOT cover them up!! I am also tattoo'd - not quite a sleeve though... yet! - and my BM and some of his family are saying that they should be covered... I am point blank refusing to cover them with sleeves or make up. They make me who I am and I didnt get them done to cover them. Plus fiance is happy with them so why should I cover them?! :P

The way I see it its your day and you do what makes you happy - not for anyone else. You've already agreed to cover when your BM for your family so whats the problem? Sorry for the rant but this infuriates me lol!!

I would just explain that you will pick a dress you love with or without sleeves as you never know the dress could have them lol

Also that the tattoos are part of you and that's one of the people everyone will be celebrating on your wedding day :) x

oh HELLS NO! Do not even think about it sweetheart - I'm also a tattoed bride and I wouldn't dream of it.

I'm having blue hair for my wedding even though most of my family want me to go blonde but I just wouldn't feel comfortable or happy with how I looked on my wedding day. This is who I am :)

:) thanks guys , all iv really said at the moment to my mum is if i find the perfect dress and it has sleeves win win but im not limiting my choices to suit other peoples preferences , none of my tattoos are offensive in anyway mostly Japanese art ect so i cant see why anyone would care , i think she feels that it wouldn't look classy and my dad wont like to see them ( he hasn't said anything about them even though i know he very much dislikes tattoos lol ) , it just sometimes gets me down thinking i that i cant look pretty with tattoos :/

I'm with everyone else, they are part of you. And is nice of you to consider covering them for your aunts wedding, seeming as she did PC you to be a bm wart (or tats) and all.

But for your day , no. If you want to cover them it'd up to you but if your happy with them on show, then its up to you. You don't want to look back and feel it does not look like you or represent the real you due to covering up. Stuff what you mum thinks.

I have one on my back, although small, it will be visible on the day...I had actually forgotten about it when trying on dresses until I turned and looked in the mirror ---- duh blonde or what ???

one daughter has a huge one on her calf & a BM has a large one in between her shoulders. the BM dresses are knee length and the backs are at bra level so all tattoos will be on show. it hadn't occurred to me to cover mine up or the BM's.

    stick to what you want

i have a sleeve over shoulder tattoo and a half forearm tattoo on other side, i played around with the idea of covering up / camo make up, but just think how strange it will be looking back on your wedding photos and the things that make you who you are, are covered up. I say nope.

Absolutely not. They are a part of you, and you had them done because you love them so show them off!! I think your mum is being very judgemental shallow and mean by saying you should cover them, we don't live in the 50's anymore x

You shouldn't cover them up to please people. It's your wedding so if you want to show them off the. You should, as your opinion is the only one that counts for your wedding day. As your the one who is getting married not them.

You're tattoo'd for 1 reason, because you want to be. Your wedding is your day, therefore i would not do anything I would not want to do. I don't like tattoo's, but I still stand by the fact people should be allowed to be themselves. Do what makes YOU happy x

I'm a strong believer in still looking like yourself on your wedding day just with a bit of extra help with hair and make up and of course an amazing dress. Don't be pressured into covering up if you don't want to xxx

i wouldn't cover them if they are a part of you, I'm covering mine but purely because i was between 16-19 when i had mine and i regret them all (currently saving for them to be tattoo'd over) if you're proud of your tattoos and they are part of your personality don't cover them up, if your mum didn't like your nose would you wear a ski mask to make her happy??? xx

I have 4 tattoos, one large poem on the top half of my back, a symbol on my neck, another on my wrist and a tribal domestic cat going down my left arm, I love them all and wouldn't change them however I am planning on getting a special effents makeup artist to cover just the 1 on my left arm. I had it done when I was 18 and it does have a special meaning to me but it's off centre and I still (me personally, no one has suggested it) want it covered just for the day.

But as I said before, don't hide them if you don't WANT to.

I've got three tattoos, a massive tiger head that covers more than half my back, a Welsh dragon on the top if my right arm and blue angel wings on my inner left forearm in memory of our baby born sleeping.
These tattoos are part of me and for those that have seen my wedding diary post and seen my dress will know that I'm having a strapless dress where all three of them will be on show :)
Just tell your mum that they are nothing to be ashamed about and noone will care about them.
