I've found a new wedding evil - the table plan :D
Although it's a fairly low-key reception the table plan is a must, if only to keep my MIL alive. But what I'm pondering is the need for placecards, can make them to what I want for under £10 for 100 so it's not the cost, it's the time (with 2 small kiddies I have so much of it lol)
Do we think placecards are a necessity OR do you think a table plan is sufficient enough?

But if it had been easy then we wouldn't love each other as
much as we do right now - 1 week to go :D

I personally think it is a necessity I'm afraid! Are you having a formal wedding breakfast or more informal one? sit down or buffet?

if its a buffet maybe not so necessary as people will be up down all the time xxx

I think a table plan is a great idea - my best mate had one last year and people could sit where they want on that table. xxx

I think a table plan is really useful, especially for those who just arn't sure - I'd also say name cards on tables too, the last thing you want is people running back and forth to check the table planner - or you could just give them a number on the planner and write their names on a piece of card - so it's like a list of people on that table, that way, they know what table they are on, but can choose their seat. I guess it all depends on how informal/formal it is. Mine is a fairly small number for our wedding breakfast of 35, so I'll be name carding as we will all be on one table - somehow! and for the 150+ in the evening, it'll be a buffet so I imagine all the guest will sit where they like.

I was going to make my own with some mount card. The plan was to print out the list of names for each table and then mount that onto some colour co ordinating care with some ribbon and a butterfly cut out and then mount the whole lot onto the big sheet of mount card. If you have a table plan then you don't have to have place names as long as the people know who is sitting on what table. I'm sure they will figure out who they want to sit next to.

I've gone for a whole new idea all together which costs about the same as it would to get the card and paper in etc.

I've made salt dough hearts (still got to make more) which basically a large bag of salt and flour will make more than 100. They have the persons name on and table number and I've painted them in my wedding colours. I will hang them from branches that we scavenge that have been sprayed and put in a vase. People then go to the tree and find their name, take it as a keep sake and then go and sit down. I'll put pics on next month when its all finished.

jo; beautiful idea, can i have link to help me visualise please? im sleepy, and visualising that isnt easy right now :L
i think if its a v formal dinner, some kind of place-name is a must, but if it more casual then you can get away with it. it all depends on how careful you have to be.
Also; if you only have table plan, than you need to make sure its easy to see which way "up" the room is; esp. if all your tbles are circles lolz <3 x

We are using a table plan because i need to keep my parents at opposite ends of the room!!!
We are also using place names so that we can break couples up (putting them opposite each other) so that everyone has to talk to each other. We're mixing everyone up so that they all go away saying that they met someone new :) xxx
