Me and H2B have just discussed the possibility of having a sweet buffet since I've read so many positive comments on here about them. My venue can provide one for £100 (I think) which from what I've seen is quite a good price. But is anyone doing their own? How much has it cost you? I was thinking by doing it ourselves, it'd probably cost around £50 (that's getting some bowls to hold the sweets, some paper bags and a couple of scoops). Where did you get your sweets from? I was thinking getting a box of some form of sweet when they are on offer in a supermarket and that would fill one bowl. What do you all think? x x

I've not done it my self but I know some one who bought a bunch of big jars off the bay and did it. You can get cute stripey paper bags online as well - saw some really cheap on A -ma - zon. I'm sure it's something you could do yourself quite easily. If you are a member of one of those big wholesale stores like Cost..... or Mac...... you'll be able to get big quantities of sweets quite cheaply.

I saw a company local that does old fashioned sweets they wer pretty expensive but supply someone to it and all sweets and that. I thought of doing it instead of having favors. And thought doing our own but worried table would look abit bare as seen some that don't lookalike they have many sweets there x

I am doing my own. I have bought 5 scoops and 5 tongs off the bay cost less than £10 for them all. I got 100 red stripey and 100 silver stripey bags also off the bay for £4. I have bought a number of glass bowls and varses from I -key -a. with the most expensive one being £3. I plan on getting my sweets in bulk from a wholesalers that i am a memebr of but i have bought some from supermarkets that had been reduced to clear and still had a sell by date after the date of my wedding i.e love hearts i got reduced after valentines day and mothers day. xx

ebay sells retro sweets like blackjacks mojo,s bonbons not a bad price will have to ask my venue if im allowed to have one not sure if you can just have one or not x
Lol I wanted one but h2b is making me choose between a cheese cake and a sweetie buffet :-( he's just cruuuuuel!
Look out for sweets reduced in sales etc, Especially after Xmas and Easter (if your wedding is after that)
Also, land of pound, bargains of the home and the stretcher of pounds doo big tubs sometimes for ridiculously low prices.
£100 is quite reasonable though if you don't want the hassle of sourcing It all yourself etc.
A lot of the online retro sweet places seem to be quite dear I think, but I would check with the venue to see exactly what you are getting. If they are sourcing it direct from a wholesales it may just be simpler to go with them xx

Reading these I'm now thinking of doing one myself for mine. Maybe ask the venue how many types of sweets and what sweets and how many grams they will supply for £100 and then have quick look see if you can do better or if u don't want the stress and think they are supplying the right amount for ur party and ur budget go for it xx

we did one and it cost us about 40 in sweets but we begged, borrowed etc crystal dishes so im not sure how much the containrs would normally be but the odd glass jar we brought was about 8-15 pounds. We did a victorian sweet buffet with the dates of invention of the sweet written underneath

Ours is free if we hired 100 chair covers. We have 92 guests so thought it was worth paying the little bit extra as I really wanted one. H2B was dead against it until i told him it was free. X

We won ours in a competiton! But depending on how many types of sweets/jars & what they provide, £100 is a good price if it is something you want x

I would say £100 is a bargain, I am doing ours myself and I'm sure I have already spent more that that on jars, I do justify it by saying I will use the fancy ones in the house after the wedding though!!x
CommentAuthorMrsEminson2B

we spent just under £100 for all the jars and swetts etc, we are now doing it as business for £150 including collection and delivery so £100 for the hotel to do it is a good price

Were doing one :) me and the oh are big sweetie lovers... after all the dieting I have been doing for my wedding day I fear I may scoff the lot before the guests have a chance ;) We have bought about ten glass bowls/vases/plates... the majority of which we got for next to nothing at boot sales :) I also plan to make some candy trees and place some cup cakes on stands as well. I am struggling to know how many sweets to actually buy to fill the vast array of jars though, I am not the best at estimating these things so think I will have to buy and do a trial set-up before the wedding. You can buy fab candy striped bags on ebay so will be buying some of those plus scoops :) I think its definitely a good idea to do one... esp if you have a lot of kids attending :)

haha Jessica, my thoughts exactly, all that hard work and dieting, sweet buffet/wedding cake/favours, you name it.... they are mine!!
We were thinking of doing a candy/sweet buffet however after talking to a cake lady yesterday we are tempted to either do what some of the others have suggested by having them on the tables instead, or doing a Desserts table instead... combination of choc dipped fruits, sweets, chocolates (as youd find on a sweet buffet) but biscuits, cupcakes, cookies, meringues, cake pops, brownies etc as well!! alot of which can be made at home so save on the pennies! Definitely not good for the new n improved waistline!! xx
