Hey, I'm from Crystal Palace and found the majority of venues ridiculously over-priced (especially when I compared them to venues near my parents who live in Worcester- almost keeled over in shock at the difference!). My tip is to consider anywhere and everywhere - you never know what you might find! There was a cricket club in Wallington (I think...) that was really reasonable, but it was quite limited on guest numbers - if you want the details, let me know! Some chain hotels/pubs do really good package deals as well. Good luck with the hunt! xx

I'm on the Clapham Brixton border (but only for another 3 weeks and then moving to Beckenham). Yep, it's really expensive in London, that's for sure! We got married in Las Vegas then had a party and a blessing done in Brockwell Park a month later. We hired a local restaurant in Herne Hill as we knew them and their food was delicious. It was also the cheapest option we found. Food for 80 (including garlic chips, j£rk chicken, rice and peas, poached salmon, salads, deep fried cauliflower as well as some other things), drink on arrival for each guest and a glass of prosecco each for the toast came in at £3500, so still nto cheap. And then there was the cost of the disco on top. If you want any help, just give me a yell...I'm kinda missing the wedding planning now LOL!
Vegas baby!

Thanks everyone for your posts! Little Kettle I might be calling upon you for some help, I have no idea where to start with the wedding planning!! Problem is I don't really know what I wan! lol. Joey do you have the details of the place in Wallington please ?xx
Not sure how far you are from Lingfield in Surrey but there is a lovely place there called The Red Barn, technically a pub but stunning. It is a barn and just beautiful. They are really flexible with prices and i think ours works out at £32 a head!! Bargain!
Always wanted a barn but they all seemed so expensive till we found this. A real hidden gem. Another place is East Court Mansion in East Grinstead, like a country house estate but registry office prices :-)

Whereabouts are you looking? I'm getting married at a church and then having a reception at Woldingham Golf Course - its a lovely place and the costs aren't too bad if you book for during the week (we are having our wedding on a Friday).

We got married at Brooklands in Weybridge, there were several places we looked at in the area xx

Congratulations Kastobe! Hope you had a fantastic wedding day! What did you think of Woldingham Golf Club? I got their prices nand brochure the other day and thought it looked good value (for Surrey prices!) Visited Hartsfield Manor the other day which was beautiful outside, but not nice enough inside for £105 pp excluding evening buffet, etc! AmyW did you get the Red Barn cheaper than their prices online? Seems reasonable for mid-week, but then at weekends £5K minimum food spend! Trying to find the right size venue too-approx 50 in the day then 80-100 in the evening

We are having a weekday, Tuesday the day after the May bank holiday. We did get bits cheaper, we have 85 to the day and and extra 30 odd for the evening. It quickly adds up though, ours is £3800. Thats the 2 course meal, 1/2 bottle of wine each, champagne for toasting and bacon/sausage butties in the evening. We went with them becaause they were so flxible but they wont negotiate on the minimum spend amount which is why we went for the Tuesday, loved the venue enough to have the tuesday instead. It was cheaper than a lot of places and exaclty what we wanted x

Thanks Amy. It definately makes a difference getting married mid-week. I have alot of family who aren't local so a fri or sat would be better, but clever how you've chosen a Tuesday after a bank hol! I like that idea!x

I'm in West London, so the areas we looked were London, Berks, Bucks, Herts, Surrey, etc; all quite expensive lol.
My advice would be to cast your net wide: consider where most of your guests will be travelling from, and what a reasonable distance for them to travel would be (we looked at venues that would take 1 hour max to travel to for most of our guests). Then, go on a website that has loads of venues listed, and just look at every single venue that you think might suit you. You will probably rule some out instantly based on size, appearance etc; the ones you're left with, get quotes from. Do NOT rule something out because you think it might be too expensive; I found venue-hunting really weird, as the ones I thought would be mega-bucks were quite reasonable, and the ones I thought would be cheap, weren't. I nearly didn't even contact our venue because it looked super-expensive, but it was actually not bad at all.
Also, I would suggest drawing up a spreadsheet for each venue, with what they include in their costs. Eg one might charge, say £150 pp but include everything from canapes and unlimited welcome drinks, to a 3 course meal with drinks, to an evening buffet, to flowers, chair covers and sashes and a DJ, and another might charge say £100 pp but not include canapes, welcome drinks, flowers, etc etc, so could work out more expensive when you add everything up.
HTH!

Only just logged on now since my wedding!
Woldingham Golf Course was fantastic. I can't praise enough the people there who helped me with everything (the day before the wedding the company I was using for a bouncy castle decided to cancel, Helen from Woldingham sorted that, I have no idea how). The place was amazing - I can definitely recommend it. The food was yummy, served with great timing and they helped cutting up the cake, annoucing people, setting stuff up.....I really can't praise the place enough.
We even got a couple of golf buggies to go find somewhere different for photographes as it was so sunny and bright on the wedding day that where we had planned all the photo's all the shadows etc were wrong.

hi im from dorking in surrey, and venues ar also redicously over priced here, were having our reception at surrey hills hotel, it was the last place we looked and i fell in love with it instantly. luckily it was about £4000 cheaper than everywhere else we looked but that was because they dont do packages like everywhere else so were just having what we want and not all the extras. they ae lovely people tat run it and said with everything like a dj and decorating that they can do it all but if we can find someone cheaper than we are more than welcome to bring someone in or do it ourselfs. im so excited now that things are finally organised xx

Hey, I live in forest Hill (South East London), we were going to book our reception at Canvas & Cream (A lovely art gallery/cafe/restaurant/bar all in one), they were very reasonable!! We decided to book at an Italian restaurant close to the church though in Bermondsey xx

Hi guys! We've just started the search and I love the pictures of Woldingham! Unfortunately, my entire budget, excluding honeymoon is £5000, which rules out most of the more handsome venues. How much we're the packages at WGC? Any info would be greatly appreciated :)
CommentAuthorbumblebumble
Hi Pang!
Woldingham holds up to 150 for a wedding breakfast and 250 for evening reception.
Room hire is £500 Mon - Thurs, £1250 Saturday and £750 on a Sunday.
Three course dinner from £39.50 pp.
Drinks and dinner packages go from £57 - £64 pp. :)
