Ii was wondering if anyone on here is planning on keeping their surname and having their new husbands change theirs instead? I'm asking because I LOVE my surname (Ginger-Ryder) and am going to be uber sad to loose it ad I'm the only one in the world wth it. I also am a bit apprehensive about becoming Mrs Thomas as it makes me sound like my MIL to be (and as I'm sure a lot of you can understand, that is NOT a good thing. Lol)

Anyway, was just wondering if anyone else was thinking about it, or if anyone knows anyone who has done it?

I can't wait to change my name.
Taking my husbands name is a symbol of my love for him and for my desire to start a new life with him and leave the old behind. xx

I love my new surname! But I was boring old Harris so I had nothing to lose (plus I only have a brother and all my cousins on my dad side are male so loads to carry it on!)

However my family was talking about how sad it was our old surname, Fernie, has pretty much died out so I understand where you are coming from- I may reintroduce it as a middle name!

My surname wont be changing, h2b and i have discussed it and there are several reasons as to why we are not changing it. Id have loved to be mrs baigent but its just not possible because of things that have happened. But my h2b is quite happy to take my surname and ileft that decision to him. To be fair im marrying him for him, the surname is irrelevant id be mrs badger as i long as i was marrying him :)

I'm taking on h2b's name, my dad is last in line of Richardson's so the family line ends there BUT mitchell will kind of carry on the name as he has my grandpa's name as his middle name

to me taking on h2b's surname shows a new life and the commitment i have for him

my h2b offered to take my name which i thought was sweet especially as i didnt ask him but ill be taking his. i work with elderly people, theyre the generation that seem to think i should give up work just because im getting married. anyway my brother already has a son to carry on the bufton name. i quite like the idea of being a hodson instead. xx

well i always secretly wanted a normal surname as it you get fed up after a while of people not being able to pronouce it or they expect some exotic creature and then i turn up. the h2b's surname is just as odd but at least people find it easier to try and say it so going to change from a Niaz to a Lewak

My h2B said he would take my surname if he could pronounce it (it's Becher, pronounced the German way) but considering he can't he wouldn't feel right taking it. I get his reasoning, so I'm not mad about it, plus my brother is around to carry on the name. I'm still deciding whether I could keep my maiden name as a middle name, but perhaps Mrs Emma Elisabeth Becher Atkinson is a bit long? :P

Just talk to your h2b and see how he feels about it

Im glad to see there are a few other like me, haha.

I know I will take his name, but I will be sad to see mine go. I liked it as it connected 2 families that hadn't spoken to each other in 13 years. I may keep the Ginger part for my Nan's sake (she died of cancer a few years ago). I'm the last born Ginger female which I think is quite sad. My step-mum and aunt have it, but they married into it. My aunt and uncle have 2 little boys so I know the surname will keep going for a few more decades yet. But hey ho.

It will be nice to not have to spell my surname out every time I mention it. But at the same time, I think I'm going to miss people going "wow" when they hear it. Lol. It will be nice to start a new branch of the Thomas family as they have recently "lost" Ben's aunt to a different surname. Haha

It's more difficult as you would both need to change your name by deed poll. Apart from the difficulty in actually choosing the name this will probably stop us doing this as we are both lazy! If the man were to take the woman's surname he would also need to change via deed poll I think.

I'm looking forward to being Ruth Coverdale. I think it sounds like a mum's name. I want to be a mum!

On the other hand I think there are definitely situations where it makes sense not to change your name or to choose something else - I have a friend who changed her surname to Gay when she got married and then later they both changed their names because they were worried their children would get bullied at school.

There was a boy at my school whose mother's name was Pat Mycock. Honestly!

Im changing mine as my current surname is my first husbands so I will be glad to get rid of it tbh, only reason I kept it this long was for the sake of my daughter but now shes a bit older and at high school she can understand better. H2b suggested that she take his as a middle name and keep her dads to make her feel a part of each family, not sure if she'll do it but its a nice idea.
