Can I get your opinions on Lillies as Wedding flowers......

I have always loved Lillies and when i think about what flowers to have on my wedding day all i can see is lillies. my MIL to be is telling me that its morbid because they are associated with funerals and that the guests will think the same thing!! is this the case? should i reconsider my choice of flowers?? :(

    I like lillies
They are the symbol of sympathy though but i think this is mainly an older genertation thing!!
Cala Lillies are stunning in a bridal bouquet!

The other thing to be mindful of is the pollen in Lillies, it stains very easily and also some types have a very strong smell

At the end of the day, have the flowers YOU want!! xxx

I am having a big white asiatic lily in my bouquet. It is only here in UK that it is associated to funeral, in France it is very popular for wedding and not really used at funeral, so I don't care if people will think I have a bouquet with a funeral flower, it is MY day, my choice, and has a very big meaning to me (my first name means white lily, and it is the emblem of French Monarchy)

You have what you want and take no notice because whatever you pick whether its flowers or some other aspect of your wedding there's always gunna be someone with an opinion which they are entitled to but at the end of the day its your wedding and what you want is paramount so dont be influenced go with what you want.

Lily of the valley : For trustworthiness, also represents the return of love and happiness, purity of heart, sweetness, tears of the Virgin Mary, you've made my life complete, humility, happiness, love's good fortune. The legend of the lily of the valley is that it sprang from Eve's tears when she was kicked out of the Garden of Eden. It is also believed that this flower protects gardens from evil spirits. Also known as the flower of May.

    Calla lillies : magnificent beauty

Lily: Majesty, wealth, pride, innocence, purity.

LILY, WHITE: Purity, modesty, virginity, majesty, it's heavenly to be with you. The white lily is linked to Juno, the queen of the gods in Roman mythology, by the story that while nursing her son Hercules, some excess milk fell from the sky creating the group of stars we call the Milky Way, and lilies were created from what milk fell to the earth. The Easter lily is also known as the symbol of the Virgin Mary.

Lily, Orange: flame, I burn for you.

Lily, Yellow: I'm walking on air, false, gay.

Hope this helps. I love the pic RaggedyAnne

There's a thread called "What do your flowers mean" with old Victorian meanings of flowers - lilies actually mean beauty and innocence :) That's why they started to be used at funerals - because they represent the innocence of the soul - not because they mean death/anything morbid :)

Calla lilies are stunning, they're my favourite flower and quite popular for brides (loads on g00gle images!) - have what YOU want! :) Xx

I'm having lilies in my bouquet, I love them. I did have them on my mum's coffin and always thought they were 'death' flowers but things have changed now, it's more the older generation that associate them with funerals x

I think some lillies are beautiful in a bridal arrangement, as already mentioned, just make sure there's no pollen to stain your dress. At the end of the day, they are your flowers, you have what you want x

if you want lillies, it's YOUR choice. plus, there are lots of different types and colours of lily. it's only white cala white are really associated with funerals (but i think they still look gorgeous!!)

I hate it when I want something for my Wedding day and somebody says "you can't have that because blah blah blah stupid old fashioned tradition that means bob all today and ps don't walk under a ladder or spill salt"

This is 2012, if you want lilies then you have them they are beautiful flowers and will look gorgeous. x
