I'm not exactly thin but not trying to lose weight for the wedding. When I ordered my dress last April they measured me and ordered it - and when I tried it again in October it was still a bit big for me. At first I did want to lose about a stone and a half - but I was told if I did that then there might be problems altering the dress as I would've lost too much weight for them to take it in properly.

At the beginning of the year I was really ill with bronchitis and did lose half a stone (not by choice though lol) and I've decided to stick at this now. After all the dress looks good and there isn't much to take in if I stay this size.

I'm trying to lose weight (and I will admit I have posted on the weight loss threads) but its not for the wedding, its because I need to! I've been told by the docs that I should because my BMI is too high. I suppose for me its just that until now I haven't really had the motivation to do it, which I know is really bad, but the wedding just gives me a goal to aim for. I don't want to look fat and wobbly in my lovely dress, I want to look back on the photos and think I looked good, not 'oh my god, i was FAT!' :o)

    I'm not actively trying either!

Like Suzky123 I usually weigh anything between 8 and 9stone I'm a size 8-10 generally and happy with it. I did say to h2b that I was thinking about maybe losing a little bit for the wedding, but he was not at all happy and said he won't be impressed if I lose weight, he likes me the way I am. I know I'm at a good BMI for my height, although am closer to the over side than the under side! I'm more concerned about feeling healthy - I really do fluctuate in size sometimes because of pre-menstrual things and how I'm feeling, contraception also messes with my weight sometimes which means some days I feel like I'm thinner and other days I feel huge.

I'm not going to go on a diet for my wedding. I try my best to eat healthy, I could do better, but I love my food way too much. Dieting would just depress me because I don't like being told what I can and can't eat. Same with exercise - we don't own a car, so we use public transport or walk everywhere - that's my exercise: I walk up two steep hills every day. Okay it's not much, but I feel the burn everytime! Maybe that just means I'm un-fit (which I am) lol. But to force myself to do regular exercise? Forget it! I can't motivate myself to do it lol. So what's the point? It would just make me unhappy to force myself to do something like that. I would feel guilty if I failed at doing it! Also I wouldn't even know if I've put on weight or not - don't own any scales! Only time I know how much I weigh is when I go to the doctors for my pill!

I'm actually mostly happy with my weight. I know that I'm slightly overweight, but I'm quite happy as long as my clothes fit and my skin looks good.

Eating healthily, exercising and maintaining a fairly constant weight is much healthier than yo-yo-ing and starving yourself.

I think it is lovely to hear someone is happy with the way they are and you shouldn't feel bad for it as I wish I could say the same. I need to lose weight for mobility reasons so it has nothing to do with the wedding. I actually feel happier now about myself than I ever have as I think that it doesn't matter what your weight is you are either happy or you are not. Weight doesn't change anything but the size of clothes you wear. I think there are a lot of women that believe if they lose weight they will be happier then don't know what to do when they lose it and still don't like themselves.

I am really obsessed with my weight now, will look into Zumba soon, and there is a climbing centre next door I'll start during summer and will check out that platform (10min) thing at my beautician. I so want for H2B's cousin wedding to have lost enough as I have my dress but don't fit anymore and don't want to buy a new one.

I chose dress that has a super-good corset so I wouldn't have to worry about losing weight. Having said that, I want to feel good about myself on the day. That doesn't neccessarily mean losing weight, but want to feel fit and healthy (ie not having eaten crap and been drinking too much as is my usual state!) x

I'm 5'7" and my weight has crept up to 9.5 stone, I want to diet before my holiday, I'd like to get down to about 8 stone 8. I have a petite bone structure, and don't carry extra weight well: my tummy is big, and it's just not healthy, plus, I feel a bit 'fat' and self-conscious.

I would never crash diet for my wedding though; ideally, I'd just like to maintain a healthy weight over the next few years. I'd also never buy a smaller dress, I'll get what fits at the time and stay at that weight, even if it's not an 'ideal' weight; I just wouldn't want the pressure of losing weight on top of everything else :-s

I go through phases of a can of coke a day. I find that after the week mark of going without I can go without Cola for a while, but if I fall off the wagon and have a can - I'm back to square one! Also, noticed that my local chinese has closed down since I stopped going there! :-/ I'm just trying to eat more veg, drink less coke and be more active :D xx

My h2b loves me the way I am, and although I am carrying a few extra pounds (well more than a few, lol) I am not so much trying to lose weight specifically for the wedding but for my health. I have IBS and suffer with sciatica and a varicose vein in my right leg, all at the age of 31! So hoping that trying this blood type diet will maybe help my health though it is a diet in the original sense of the word "a way of eating", not starving yourself to conform to societies standards, and if it reduces the size of my waist then it will reduce the risk of diabetes etc. My dress will fit either way on the day as I have a lace up back in it now instead of a zip, yay! :)

My h2b keeps a careful eye on me as I tend to lose weight sometimes too much.
I went down to 7 stone last year at 5ft 4 and was a little Skinny! Now Im 8stone 4 which is a lot healthier - but when H2B thinks Im losing weight he doesnt let me get away with it - he makes me eat and gets upset if I lose weight! so Im lucky I guess that I have a H2B that prefers me curvy to skinny.

(I have had Boyfriends in the past that have said I was fat when I was 9 stone! and saying that I 'could do with losing a few pounds!' - goes without saying that upset me and we split up shortly after!!)

Rhiannon, that's shocking that they told you you were fat. I had a few like that, although admittedly I was a heck of a lot bigger than you.

I was 14 stone a few years ago and wasn't happy. I'm quite happy as I am now. I'm still about 11 stone but it seems to suit me.

Talking about weight - my Mum has always been very slim - thinner than me.

And last summer she lent me a pair of denim levis shorts. (proper 90s style high waited vinatge looking)

I was wearing them this weekend and my dad just went 'Are those your mums!!??' she had them when she was about 34 and I was 7 - 20 years on and Im wearing them!!

I think thats really cool! :)

My mum was very slim before she had me then rapidly got bigger after giving birth and spent most of my life blaming me. My dad later told me she was on slimming tablets up until she got pregnant (basically speed) which was the only thing that kept her thin. She's spent the rest of her life on yo-yo diets to try to get her weight back to the way she feels she would be happy.

OH NO! Im sorry she made you feel bad! Thats one thing I want to be sure I do if I have kids is make sure that I instill a really healthy and safe attitude to food and body image.

My mum has always been slim only now in her mid 50s is she a size 10 - she used to be a 6/8 all through growing up.

She said she actually got small after we were born - she said she just got skinny and that was that!

I agree that you should love yourself no matter what size you are. When I was thinner I used to see myself as being fat an ugly because of the way society and people treated me which was wrong. Since having an accident I have put on weight and I'm a size 18. Its strange because I actually like myself more now than I ever have done but that is because of my h2b and the way people treat me now. Yes I am trying to lose weight but that is for medical reasons and not because of the wedding. I've ordered my dress the size I am now. If I lose weight all well and good as it will help my mobility but I'm not going to stress myself or starve over it. I can proudly say that my h2b loves me for who I am and not what I look like so it doesn't matter if I stay the way I am now or lose a bit as I will always be the same person to him.

I think its sad when men and women feel the need to change the way they look (weight, hair, make up, etc) to try and fit in. I think if we actually spent more time paying people compliments instead of criticizing others then people would never end up being so unhappy over something that doesn't really matter.
