Iv seen a lot of you have found your cakes in supermarkets and I was planning on doing this too. The thing is I want the cakes the stack on top of one another. Would I still be able to do that if I took them off the cake boards they come on.

I plan to wrap ribbon around the base of each one so it would cover up any joins. But I don't want it to look messy.

Also these cakes? Are they plain iced or have a pattern on them?

i think you would be able to stack them. my uncle got his from m and s and they stacked them. the cakes he got were plain iced. think it depends where you get it from. look online at asda, tesco, mand s and i think morrisons do them. hope that helps. xx

if you're going to stack them remember you need to dowel the cakes, if the board is bigger than the cake then you can buy thin ones that fit better but they need to be on a board

Mmmmm, I don't know now. I'm most likely not going to risk messing them up and have them traditionally stacked with pillars. I am currently in the process of learning how to make the wired cake toppers. I will let you all know how I get on, epecially those who are decorating their cakes themselves.

    Cheers girls x

Marks and spencers have a good choice of cakes, the one we are looking at from them is four tier satcked on top of each other,or waitrose is another optionx

Thanks Lisa. I'v had a look on there and they seem reasonably priced compared to some I have seen. in total honesty I think the price for wedding cake is extortionate. I won't pay anymore than £70/80 for it. I'd rather not have one. lol. Just think its a lot of money for what it is. x

Hi I too and thinking of a supermarket cake, i found a company caled lawsons that do a tree tired cake, sponge, choc sponge, fruit or mixed plain iced for around £85-£90 then you pick the decs for the top. As far as stacking goes; you can stack them on top of each othe as long as its the same filling (all fruit cake, all sponge) if the tiers are different you will need a seperate cake stand with three bits, my friens had a wdding cake that was mixed and the fruit cake was too heavy for the sponge and it collapsed! Cheak with any cake company and they should give ya more info, hope that helps x

Rethatsme - how deep are they? I looked at the dimentions and they didn't sound very big. I really like the look of the asda ones coz they are so plain and I can have exactly what I want on it.

My plan is to have 3 tiers. All with a thick magenta ribbon round them and then I am going to make a wire and beaded cake topper with light pink, clear beads. then firework looking things, I'm sure you all know what I mean. lol.

All the bits for the topper total to £10 and I could make about 4 with the materials and sell the other 3 on ebay. They go for about £25/£30 each. put it towards something else can't I?

Were getting ours from Marks and Spencer.. they come with the board but not the pillars.
Were going for sponge rather than fruit cake but knowing M&S it will be gorgeous :)
Were only having 1 tier as theres not many guests.. 1 large is £25 for 54 pieces :)

    Awesome :)
I'm not a fan of fruit cake.. I don't have a asda by me so can only shop online.. so wouldn't like to order it online without seeing it..
But I shop in M&S regularly so I know what theirs is like :)

Yeah, I wouldn't reccomend ordering them Shell. My mum went through about 5 cakes in Tesco when she got married to make sure that they were perfect. They can get banged about in the shop, quite a few were cracked or the icing had broken off in places. She managed to get them perfect though. her cake was beaut. x

We have decided on M&S as you can get 3 tiers for £75 and they are medium, large and extra large in sponge. My florist is going to decorate the cake with the same flowers as we have on the tables.

I think it's a great idea - I was going to but then a friends mum has insisted she make ours.
