    Hi,

I hope this is the right place as i'm hoping someone suit knowledgeable will be able to help.

My other half and I have decided to get married at short notice, we managed to gather the lads yesterday to go suit hire shopping.. It was a disaster and i desperately need help as i'm running out of time.

My other half really doesn't want a traditional suit, he just wants a normal short jacket black suit, and he wants one that can be matched with suits for kids. He has half a lovely suit at home which is perfect (my rabbit ate the waist band on the trousers) but it was expensive and we don't have the money to pick one up for everyone, nor is there a child's suit to match.

The two best men were fitted with a black suit at a national suit hire shop, which looked lovely on them, despite one of them being rather chunky, but when it came to my other half's suit, whilst it fitted beautifully on the shoulders, it was just hanging off him everywhere else!

They measured him as a 40R with a 34inch waist, so he clearly has very broad shoulders compared to the rest of him. They no longer offer a slimline suit for hire and the only one in store to purchase is £170 and it doesn't even begin to match the others - they don't do a child's suit in the style chosen but i have seen ones similar that would go nicely with either that i can purchase for a reasonable price. We can't afford to buy 3 slimline suits, although i don't think it would look good on the chunky best man (his waist is 44inchs and he's not very tall) anyway. The only thing that the shop can offer us is for us to hire two suits and purchase my other half's and then have it altered, which comes in at £160, which is a lot of money considering that his other suit is still wearable and is a lot nicer, so he wouldn't wear it again.

Does anyone know of anywhere that could accommodate his shape as well as the best men so all through can look their best, even if its a case that there are very slight differences between the suits? It would be even handier if they did matching kid's suits

Try m&s or debenhams for the groom's suit, you could buy the jacket and trousers separately and if they're all in black suits then that should be fine - failing that do you have a Slater's hire or Greenwoods near you? They had competitive hire prices when I was shopping around...

M & S do great slim fit suites for much less than £170!
Failing that I'd say to maybe try other suit hire shops in the area.
    Hope you get sorted :)

Wow! That was quick! Thank you!

Lalabunni - I have made my wall public, thank you for the link (when it arrives)

One of the things i'm struggling with is getting him, and the best men to the shops to try things on. I'm on maternity leave and have a rubbish boss who feels he doesn't really need to pay me, so my OH is working all the hours under the sun to cover everything - he only has Tues & Wed evenings and Sundays free. Beginning to think that organising a wedding in 8 weeks when the groom is never home wasn't the best plan

Debenhams also do mens formal hire... and they're very reasonably priced!

Moss hire is also very good, they have a brilliant range of suits! Check out their website...

Have you got any of those shopping malls nearby? We have one with an M&S in and they're open till 8pm during the week, and Sundays too :-)

Other than that you can order online then return them if not suitable so he can try at home?

Lesleys1, we went to Moss. They've conveniently stopped doing their slimline suit for hire :(

Bridalmiss, we don't have anywhere that stays open that late except on a Thursday night, but he doesn't finish work til 10. I might have to take your advice and order online

Greenwoods are good for suits. We hired the groom's suit but bought for the best man, usher and my dad - and they were all a different mix of shapes and sizes lol. They tend to have deals on most of the time as well. When we bought from them all the suits in the shop were half price!!

I'm getting the kid's suits from Next. I did look in there before for my OH, and we had the same problem with it hanging off him, but the size down being too small. I think i might have to fatten him up for the wedding day, either that, or he quits his job so he's not working so hard and gets a bit more weedy lol

He's working in a chippy tonight, so i might just get him to eat lots, although he'll probably just burn it all off again tomorrow at his day job *humph*

Look for a traditional tailors, they hire suits out and they will do temp alterations for free to make sure they are a better fit. My mum is a tailoress and I've seen her work having to cater for rugby players making all sorts of alterations and they look fab. Their hire brochures are the same as the national ones (like moss bros, topman, greenwoods, burtons etc) so they'll be the same price, only difference is because they're from a tailors you'll get a better fitting service that the others can't provide. Hope this helps xx

Thanks ClaireE, that's a really good idea! I've emailed a few asking what they can do! Thanks Hails, i think i know the site you are talking about, i've looked into it, but i'm worried that i'll have the same problem as in Moss!

If we don't find anything, he's going to wear his suit, and we'll get different ones for the boys and best men as both suppliers have ones that are similar to the one he already owns, he'll just have to be careful if he takes the jacket off, blooming bunny rabbits!!
