My problem is I want various entertainment during the day/evening. My h2b is no help, hes about as much use as a trapdoor on a life raft. Its a christmas theme so needs to tie in around that. Im having a dj/disco in the evening but want extra touches/entertainers etc... I cant go mad as our budget isnt endless, but I do want to put aside some money for some special touches. We are also having a santa to hand out favours and hopefully carols sung by a choir in church but I want something that will liven the place up, get people moving/laughing etc... and create a really good atmosphere. My worst nightmare is a flat atmosphere, with guests falling asleep a few hours in. I have 17 months so not a major panic but I know I need to start booking to secure our date.
Any ideas to add fun/entertainemt to the church or evening reception? Your help would be hugely appreciated.xx

We are getting married on the 21st Dec this year and although I've gone for a winter wonderland theme we are still adding to the xmas idea. OK here goes: it's a civil ceremony - when I walk down the aisle instead of petals my flowergirl is scattering fake snow. After we are having mulled wine & mince pies for the adults & hot chocs for the kiddies with a gingerbread house, while the reception drinks are on we are gonna have an ipod with Xmas songs playing (not carols more pop ones). Then at the wedding breakfast like you we are getting a visit from santa for the kids. We are starting the evening at 6.30pm because our wedding is at midday on winter solstice and we didn't want the afternoon to drag too much! We are having a DJ, giant games like Jenga, Twister & a beat the buzzer which should be interesting after a few vinos! & also a roulette table - we got a really good deal on all those (under £600.00) from one company. We are also having an indoor bouncy castle for the kids as I can see them climbing the walls if it's raining and they can't get outside. All I can say is that the main complaints we've heard from people lately is how long it takes to do the photos & the receiving line so I would suggest you have something to keep everyone else occupied whilst that is taking place. Anyway, hope this helps to spark off some ideas for you. Oh almost forgot LOTS of mistletoe too :) x

Some really good ideas ladies thank you. I love the mince pies/gingerbread thing...never thought of that. I dont think our reception room mould be big enough for big games but I know what you mean about keeping the kids and big kids entertained...especially as Im not counting on the weather to be nice. xx

How about a charicaturist - spelt wrong? Gives people a keepsake as well! We are having casino tables whilst the room is being turned around which I am hoping will be keeping everyone entertained! What about typical christmas games like charades - you could link them to a christmas or wedding theme! Mulled wine? what about christmas traditions from other countries? Hope this helps xx

caricaturist is how its spelt - thats what I'm looking at - although H2B doesn't know whether he will allow it - an extra expense that could be spent elsewhere according to him. So I've said can we keep it as a maybe and make the decision when we know if we can afford to spend the money on one which he's allowing.
So now I'm bargain hunting even more to ensure I have the money. :P
Sorry to interject, but do you think a magician could be a good idea? I know it's not exactly Christmassy, but I have seen a few over the past couple of years and have been very impressed.
The Magician's I have seen are the close-up ones, which go around your guests and do tricks right in front of them...If you do a search for "Close-up Magician" and look for 'Rob James' he is supposed to be very good.
