I'm looking for a cheap or free venue. h2b's parents have a huge garden but dont want to ask them as they hate me enough as it is. They are also very traditional (apparently we should have got married, bought a house, then had kids... we had the kids, then moved in together, getting married, then buying a house.... backwards apparently).

They want us to invite absolutely everyone for the entire day! But havent offered any monetry support! Suffice to say, they dont know we are engaged again as they were rather happy (mil2b was smirking!) when dean told her we were no longer engaged.

Anyway im looking for a free or cheap venue. We have £750 but this needs to do....
    1. First drink or toasting
    2. food
    3. entertainment
    4. venue hire

I know that the above is extreemly hard pushed, but i know it can be done.... i just need it to be done for me lol

its either that or a euro win!

Why not have a late wedding and miss out the sit down meal could save £1000's.
You can get married at 4pm have your pics and go straight into your toasts and then buffet. Do the buffet yourself.

is there a masonic hall near you? we're having our reception in a masonic hall, really nice buildings and they normally offer free room hire and just charge for the food and you get your decorations and entertainment. xxxx

My mum had her reception in a labour/ conservative club (not sure which) that was quite nice.
Maybe you could find a function room in a labour club or nice pub and come to a deal with them for free hire if you can get X amount of £'s will be spent behind the bar by your guests.

oooh yeah, that was the same with the one we're hiring, we went to see the venue and they brought the chef out to give us sheets with menu ideas and prices, although each one is different. Is there a way to contact them? they may be able to give you more information over the phone. xxx most will require you to get your own entertainment in, such as dj etc. xxx

mrsmoran2b: i just re-read what you said regarding decor and entertainment.

Bobsi: i dont want a full day of it, will b too tiring with the boys and for the older guests. and dean doesnt want anything big either. so just the afternoon evening time i guess, not sure on timings yet.

    LMC: lucky you!

A lot of places near me (like pubs/cricket clubs/golf clubs) offer free venue hire, buffet, and DJ if a certain amount (usually £500-1000) is spent on drinks. Would that be an option?

Or, look at village/church halls, as most are pretty cheap.

As far as entertainment goes, DJs are the cheapest option (starting at around £150) or if your venue has a PA system you should be able to hook up an iPod and play your own music.

Drinks-wise, most of the big supermarkets do deals eg 3 for £10/£12, buy 6 get 25% off etc, and soft drinks are cheap, esp if you buy own brands.

You can get dj's for around 5 hours say 5-10 for between £30-50 PH.
If you could get a good price your looking at around £150.

bobsi: i enquired about a college band from my old singing tutor (now head of music department) she said offer each person around £30 each and agree to be a reference for each person i could have a live band from the college works out £120 for drummer, bass, guiter, vocals and if vocals plays i could end up with a keyboard player in there somewhere too!

we are getting married in a little bed and breafast/farmhouse resturant.

The only charge menu prices for food and drink (wine they sell to us at trade prices) and add £200 to hav the ceremony there as they set up for the meal.

We are having a sit own meal with wine on the table and toast and bucks fizz recpetion during the photos and room change for 90 (15 children) then bacon, sauasage or egg rolls with chips for the eve for about 120 and our bill is about 3.5k. but this includes everything from dresses, rings, cake, flowers, ceremony room hire at the venue , the extra for registar in site, chair covers, a rock band and race night.

So I def reckon you could do it...remeber nothing is gained if you do not ask.

When I saw our venue I did not think for one minute we could get all that we are doing for such an amazing price, I have just been honest about our budget and peope have worked with us.

I am not sure where you live but it could be worth contacting the local college for any final yr catering stuents who want to earn some money and experince.

A friend did this and she fed 50 people for about £300 and the food was really good.

Another friend hired a hall and asked people to bring a dish instead of a present and they had the best buffeet I have been to...

I am sure you will find excactly what you want hun x

Other venues to try would be town halls, salvation army, local pubs tend to do free room hire too.

do you have any friends who are good at doing things ie playing music, making cakes etc.

    xx

Lovely Leesa (my bridesmaid and member of ukb) is good at baking cakes altho we are going to try her first milk free cake on weds for my sons bday. Hes got a milk protein allergy. I suppose I could ask her to bake the cake with me.... Tho my grandpaernts have said they will cover the cake.

I used to have friends that were great at music but lost touch with them over the years.

My grandparents are mormon and neither of us are religious. I dont want to be hypicritical. Mormon church is in the middle of nowhere and we expecting an older couple from spain so with it being hard to find i dont want to lose any guests lol. I am seriously contemplating huntingdon masonic hall. Now just to convince dean to go view it. I guess being in a freemason buildi.g wouldnt be hypocritical as he does.believe in a supreme being just doesnt believe in god if that makes sense?

So if i can get food for £300 this will mean £325 for a drink each and entertainment. But if i can get dean to go out and meet with freemasons once every 3 weeks and we would get a discount lol. The hall is for freemasons to meet. Men only. Not allowed discussion of religion or politics. But must believe in some form of supreme being.
