It's really up to you, we have said if people must buy us something we would like money as we have lived together for so long and don't need anything. We are going to put it towards a new bath room which we hope to do this year. If you need things you could do a gift list but if you have lived together etc you could ask for money. The only thing with letting people buy what they want you might get duplicates and people may not know what to buy. It really depends on your circumstances x x

Personally I favour gift lists as I don't like asking for/being asked for money. But it's up to you, would you want anything from a gift list etc? I wouldn't just let people buy whatever though as I think for a guest it can be awkward not knowing what to buy and asking can be awkward too

We did a mix, we have a gift list where people can buy vouchers or a present, but we've said to my mum etc that we would prefer money because we've been together so long that we don't need much but we are saving for a deposit, so those who are ok with giving money can and those who aren't can get a gift/vouchers. But we've done it all through my mum who knows most of the guests and what they are comfortable with so hopefully no worries over offending people. So if you know your guests well you can tailor what you ask for to their comforts

We've got a nice money poem to ask for money towards our honeymoon instead of gifts, as we don't need anything! xx
