Hi Guys I can't find a venue I like that isn't too expensive or formal. My other half really would like a barn but all the ones i've found are really expensive and seem to want you to have a very formal do. Any Ideas?

don't know of anything in your area but continue looking. I was looking for a rustic barn style venue, i'm from norfolk - believe me there are plenty of barns - but they were all quoting me about £3000 just to hire it out before even considering food. I've now found a gorgeous 15th century country inn (pics on my profile - but they don't do it justice). Got all old beams- beautiful. and really affordable - whole thing costing £2200 (inc. food/drink for 70 guests, disco and overnight stay for bride and groom). So i would recommend looking at old pubs/ inns and hotels in your area- i'm sure you'll find something amazing :) xxx

keep at it! A few weeks ago I got really down as I thought I was being too fussy and I couldnt find anything I liked in my price range. I have seen sooo many places and have finally this week found the one! It wasnt even what I was looking for but it ended up being perfect and the right price. Basically view as many places as possible, one of them will be right for you!

Do you want to get married there too or not? If you want it all in the same place then give the registry office a ring and ask them to send you the booklet of all the places you can get married at so you can work your way through the list. If you are getting married in church or the registry office then you really can go anywhere so check out pubs, restaurants etc and ask them about function rooms. Cricket clubs and other places like that usually have nice function rooms too!
If you want a more informal do, tell the venue straight up that's what you want. You'll be surprised how many will actually still be interested in helping you out with what you want to achieve. End of the day, if they want your business they will bend over backwards to help you. If they won't, then they're not worth it. Fingers crossed you find your perfect venue and a good deal :-) x

not entirely sure we think probably a church wedding but not definite cos not many of my or h2b's family are religious. Although if we do my uncle will do the ceremony as he's a priest! We fancied a barn cos h2b is a timber framer and so we thought it would be appropriate. Mind you his other idea was a scottish castle but that is totally out of the realms of possibility let alone budget!
Thanks for everyones messages it's so nice to have a support network! xx
