HELP!Our wedding may be a while away yet but I like to be super organised with everything so i know I dont have to worry....but I am..am really struggling to find a suitable venue for our wedding/venue, which is then made even harder by the fact that where ever we get married people will have to travel quite a way to because our families live nearly two hours apart...this is the one thing Iam really worried about as both myself and h2b have an idea of the kind of place we'd like to book but living on the edge of nowhere it is quite hard to find a venue that will tick all of these boxes :( anybody have any suggestions?x

I had the guests travelling dilemma - but almost moreso, because the majority of the guests live in London/South East, and we live in Cheshire, so most of them will have a good 4-5 hour drive to get here. But in the end I decided that because I had a limited budget, and I was doing 90% of the organising, I would just pick a venue near me, and those that *really* want to attend the wedding will sort out getting here. I just picked a ceremony time of later in the day to give them all time to get here.

I know it's an often repeated thing on here, but basically this is your day, so go with what suits you and your budget. I almost got very tied up trying to find a venue that looked lovely (what h2b and I wanted) but also had hotel rooms onsite so I could accommodate all the guests, but Mum said - "look, you don't need to worry about sorting everything out for everyone, they are all grown ups, they can figure out accommodation themselves. Just tell them when and where to be" :-) So we went with a lovely looking place that doesn't have hotel rooms, and we'll just suggest a few local places for people to stay.

Just make sure there are a range of accomodation options available. Being made to stay the night in the venue when it costs a couple of hundred pounds can get annoying, but knowing theres a cheap B&B nearby makes it a lot easier.

    Dove speaks wisely!

I plan to have a range of options from Travel Lodges, to the local spa/golf hotel. I'm hoping to have enough money in the budget to spend our wedding night in the spa/golf hotel, so I might try and see if they'll do me a deal on a bulk booking to get reduced rates for some of the guests, but there are plenty of cheaper places around the area fortunately :-) And of course most people can get their own deals just by searching on the internet on any of a number of hotel booking websites :-)

megs ppl will travel :) that's what my mum said cos i'm in a similar position i live in durham and half my family are in hull and the other northampton but his family live round the corner so we've basically made sure our venue is a) gorgeous and b) easy to commute to for those that don't know the area and we found one, smack bang in the middle of the city is a castle and best thing it's got rooms for the guests :) however, i've pulled together a list of b&b's in the local area and a list of taxi companies for people to use but made sure that the return journey is no more than about £10-15 xx

we were looking at a hotel with 3 rooms included, the bridal suite plus two other rooms, but we don't particcually like the venue, so it was only to please guests anyway. we have now found (well i have lol) a venue thats perfect an i am taking danny to look around on thursday!! as long as there is accomadation close by people kind of expect to pay for a b and b if they have to travel to a wedding so don't stress about it xx

thats a brill idea...we think we've narrowed it down to a list of a few but to be honest going from what youve all mentioned I think we can safely rethink the type of venue we were going to look at and just pick for us and what we what would...thank you everybody xx

You can't please everyone as you will soon find out so please yourselves and do what is right for you and the h2b. Find a place within budget that you like and will make you happy. You will find that most people will travel and put up with it (even if they moan etc) Its not like they don't have long enough to save for it. You are giving them plenty of notice for them to save some money for the petrol/train fares and hotels. If for some reason you have someone that is struggling to get down to you then if you know someone in the area with a spare seat in the car ask them to go and pick them up and car share etc.

I found the best thing to do was to go to the registry office for each county near us. (we border so many) and get the lists of all the places you can legally get married. We then looked at them all on the internet and compiled a short list to go and visit. From there we decided which was the best value for money and which gave us what we were looking for. We then found our venue which was everything we wanted so everything else went out the window. (we were just lucky it happened to be one of the cheaper ones)

You can get lists from the internet but I find they always miss out one or two places and different sites will list different ones. Also when you speak to the registry office they can answer any questions you might have like which office you need to give notice at as it depends on where you live etc. You can't give notice though until a year to the day you are getting married but some of them will let you provisionally book the date and time. Others will make you wait until the date though so you have to hope and pray that they still have your day and time free which can be a nightmare. Depending on where you venue is will depend on which office you book that with though. We have to give notice and Nuneaton because of where we live but its the Hinckley office that come out to our venue which is in a different county to the one we live in. (gets confusing)

It can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be but I found coming on here helped me no end. Its easier to ask on here than it is to sit at home trying to find all the information etc. I was the same when I started out but the girls made it easy for me and we are now just passing it on to everyone else starting out. Most of my ideas and money saving tips came from here.
