Just had our questionnaire through from the venue ready to send back before our next meeting and I am absolutely fuming!! Looking through it, its flagged up chair covers..... When we booked we were told that we had access to the chair covers - at this point and at no other point nothing has been said about money value for the chair covers - been to see them a few times, went to countless wedding fairs etc and nothing has been said. They are now saying that it will cost us £2 per chair for the covers...! I've already now said about nothing being mentioned and not being told its at an extra cost - were already spending over £6000 on the wedding and then the countless rooms we've got booked out for our guests - they've now said they'll discount it to £1 a cover but this is still an extra £100 over we didn't budget for!
Am I being unreasonable? Or do I need to stop being a wimp and put my foot down?! I don't want to come across as a Bridezilla but at the same time were paying a lot of money to them - why weren't we ever told!!
aarrgghhhhhh!!! xx

If you have nothing in writing regarding the cost of chair covers then I can't see how they can expect you to pay. However, if you are required to pay then £1 per chair cover sounds very reasonable.
Our venue provided us with a full quote breakdown so we could see exactly what was being spent and where. By signing the contract we agreed to everything within the breakdown.

No theres nothing in the contract regarding chair covers - I've already opted to pay extra for wall drapes because I liked them and now it seems like a slap in the face.
Just spoke to my mum and dad, who were also there as this was the day they paid the deposit, and I wasn't hearing things, he definitely said that we have access to the chair covers - well said we have the use of their chair covers. No charges were mentioned at all... xx

They should have been clear at the start about costs of chair covers, and whether they were assuming that you would have them. If there is nothing in the contract stating that you are committed to using them and paying for them, they aren't really in a position to enforce the cost. If you don't want to pay, rather than asking for them for free, I would do without. We didn't have them, and they really aren't necessary, our venue looked great without them. They really aren't worth the extra worry about finances for.

If they've never mentioned them having a cost, I would definitely argue it, they might just be trying to have one over on you for more money,
I 'argued' the price at my church because the Rev'ds admin said the cost was £840 and I questioned it with the Rev'd himself and now it's a proper price of just over £600
So it's definitely worth telling them you weren't told about the charge xoxo

I would argue it. If it wasn't mentioned at the time then extremely cheeky to ask for a charge now!

I would put my foot down and tell them straight. How long ago did you sign the contract?

Don't pay the charge, as its not in your contract. EC makes a good point that you don't necessarily need them anyway.

having ACCESS to something doesn't mean they are included at no extra charge , unless they are written as part of your contract then there is really nothing you can do,its now your choice to have them or not ... tbh i think there are a bit of a waste of money anyway unless the chairs are the plastic garden type !!
Lala is right, although they really should have been clear with you about costs at the beginning so you could decide whether or not to budget for them. I definitely agree on them being a waste of money, as most of the time they'll be hidden by the people sitting in them.

It is cheeky of them to not be forth coming with the price, but I think you might need to meet them half way. There is no harm in trying though!
