I've gone through and blocked them all, then deleted it. Now I hardly get any ... it's a bit of a hassle having to do it the first time, but it really cuts down on the adverts, I've only had a couple over the last week.

It's just at the bottom of the advert , says "Block" in pink next to how long ago it was posted. You have to block them all individually, and then individually delete them from your wall, but it's worth the effort to not have so many clogging up the wall.

I think you are referring to our 'Shout Outs' - this is where local businesses (and some National), can send a message (and can include a photograph), to make you aware of their products or services.
We have an overwhelming positive response to these messages. And don't forget we want UKbride to be FREE to join, but we have to earn money somehow, we have tried to make sure that our advertising is subtle and useful.
its will be nice if they be close to me.some i looked and they are miles away

J not one single advert on my wall has been for anything local, since i joined here! that and what usually is posted is waaaay out of my price range. theres already adverts down the left hand side in the forum etc so is more advertising necessary on our walls too? tbh i wouldnt entertain the idea of using one of these suppliers repetitively posting on my wall because i dont like being hounded and would prefer to find companies and products myself. its the same reason why i turn away door to door sellers, if i wanted what they were selling i'd go and find it myself. I understand that you want to keep the forum/site free etc, running a forum myself i completely understand. BUT you already get money from these companies for them to be in the ukbride supermarket etc so a few less ad's would be really nice! If nothing else can there not be a simpler way to block and delete these ad's rather than us having to block and delete them one by one- it takes ages!

i took ages going through deleting all the old adverts etc. that i didn't want on my wall - didn't realise you could block them
I wish they wouldn't post them to the wall - be nicer if there was just a page on this site for lots of adverts like there is the suppliers page. A lot of the adverts that get posted on my wall are out of date too
Think I will blockfuture advertisers as I have most things too and hate going through all the crap i don't need x

i agree panther with the prices they charge its the same with bridal mags i used to buy about 5 every months but not anymore cause there more celebrity/rich ppls prices that ppl like us cant afford,in one there was a dress for £10.000 shoes for £900 etc etc so over board and out of reach. i have considered doin my own mag type thing where i get adverts for suppliers that charge and do different things all for under £1500/2000 everything from invites to dresses, photographers.

they get to advertise on the site e.g. down the columns next to the forum and with the new discount thing and the fact that we have supplier search facilities i don't see why they should post on our walls freely. Would be nicer if we had a check box system where you can select what type of suppliers you want to hear from and uncheck all the ones you have booked so you aren't bombarded
Could be a suggestion for IT Man to have a look at although he does have a never ending list of things to do for UK Bride x

What I find annoying is the fact that even though I have blocked some (one which is a bridal shop that I went to and they were rude to me) still comes up even though I know I have pressed the block button on more than one occasion. The reason I notice it so much is the fact that I hate that shop so much just because of the way I was spoken to and every time I see the add it makes my blood boil.

I know what's its like when i go to others pages as a link i'm interested in has been posted on someone else's wall and i trail through 11 pages to find it.

Okay let me explain how this works.
The adverts on your wall are called 'Shout Outs' - Suppliers can send ONE Shout Out per week. We do suggest to our advertisers that they should consider changing their advert to create more interest (but have no control if they choose not to).
We have been very strict in not letting advertisers bombard you in this forum, but you have to understand they need to make a living. Our unique service presents their business directly in front of brides in their catchment area.
Advertisers choose which marketing radius they want to promote their business (typically a 25 mile or 50 mile radius of their business' postcode). So if you see a Shout Out and you feel they are miles away they are still happy to provide their service.
stressed to max b2b says - id rather pay and not have them advertising than be free and have it everywhere i look :@ and sayin that i have actually paid :p x
I have checked this with IT Man (IT God), we need funds to run this massive website, we spend £10,000 alone EVERY MONTH just promoting it, IT Man costs me a ****** fortune, and we have loads of staff. We didnt want to charge members to use UKbride but we can change the site for those who want to pay for an 'ADVERTISING FREE UKBRIDE' - We would need to charge £20 to switch the advertising off each year, (this would be in addition if you have paid to become a Power User).
Let us know if you are interested in paying for an 'ADVERTISING FREE UKBRIDE'...
Forum Poll
'ADVERTISING FREE UKBRIDE'
Would you be prepared to pay £20 EVERY year to have an 'ADVERTISING FREE UKBRIDE'?
If I'm honest - I would be okay with the shout outs if there were a slightly easier and quicker way to remove them from our walls OR if our profile pages were redesigned in format so that communications from other brides and posts like that were in a separate part of the page from the shout outs, so that any useful links from others are not buried under pages and pages of shout outs, which take literally AGES to remove because you can only do it one at a time, with a confirmation prompt and waiting for the page to reload in between each one, which believe me can take a VERY long time.
I quite like having them, and have clicked on some of the adverts to find out more, but I really wish they were either easier to delete, or in a different place on the page.

I am taking on board all of your comments!
After the 'Sell your dress' Power Tool has been built we are then work on 'My Story' this is like a clever blog facility. Part of this work includes many improvements to the Wall. So we will look at ways of keeping both our members and clients happy xxx
It is not the fact they post adverts but that they are amongst messages and links from other forum users. I often use the search facility for information and when I see someone posting a link about a product, idea or supplier on their wall my heart sinks as I know I will never find the information so people ask for the same links ets over and over again which blocks up the forum unnecessarily. If we had a wall for forum users and a seperate wall for suppliers I would be much happier with that as it would ease sharing information and you would not miss when someone posts. Thanks x

i dont really mind the adverts, i like that there all local to me didnt realise it was ment like that i go quite excited lol ive got almost everything i need for my big day so they dont serve any purpose but they dont annoy me, but i do agree that when someone says link on my wall and you have to spend ages scrolling through adverts that can be a bit fustraiting. x

Bump
Give me your ideas to improve your wall and keep our clients happy!
i've seen it mentioned that without the suppliers this site wouldnt be here, don't forget that without us brides this site wouldnt be here either! J, i think either having just the other advertising (of which i think theres plenty anyway) i.e the ads down the sides of all pages, ukbride supermarket, ukbride suppliers having access to our details etc etc or having a much simpler system for removing and blocking shout outs that are irrelevant to us. that could be 1.being able to block/delete multiple shout outs in one go. 2.having something in a settings section, that allows you to opt out of specific categories of ads or all ads. 3.having a separate wall page for suppliers to advertise on
CommentAuthorHalloween_Bride
sorry but i agree with mr potato head! J & everyone work their bútts off to keep this site running, its not easy designing a site etc (my h2b designs them in his spare time) these guys have to earn a wage somehow, and if they got rid of the advertising would you be wiling to pay their wages?

I dont mind the adverts, happily look at something if I am interested in it. It doesn't take too much time if you get into the habit of checking your wall when you come on, most of us do it daily and then deleting stuff - just good housekeeping surely. I would however like to have the ability to delete several items at once like hotmail - so my suggestion Mr Potato Head is a small check box beside each message so that you can click several and then press delete.. Thanks

The adverts don't bother me as they are only on my wall and I can ignore them. I have however had one or two catch my eye so they can come in handy. I guess my only gripe about them is that when a bride posts on your wall you can miss a post because it gets buried under all the adverts so it would be nice if we could have it changed so that maybe the posts from brides are separated from the adverts.
I would rather have the adverts than pay to use the site and Its not like they are in your face all of the time. For brides starting out they are a great way to get suppliers and they only become annoying when you have booked everything and don't need to use them. I love the idea that as power users we get discounts (even though its too late for me) as it is something that would have come in handy for me when I first started out.
CommentAuthorMrsMelodyWalker
I ignore the advertising on my wall, 90% of the time the suppliers are no where near me but if they were local suppliers I'd have a look and check stuff out so I'm not sure if there's a way to do this? But I appreciate the guys who have created and working on this site are so busy trying to improve it so I think it's just one of those things you have to put up with one day they will get round to sorting this issue :-)
