We got engaged about a month ago and we have booked our venue already for 4/4/15!
I'm so sad that we have to wait for so long but there is nothing we can do about it!

We already had a holiday to florida booked for next year with all my family so financially it would be impossible to do it then! And then 2014 is my final year at uni (I'm doing a law degree!) so i cant really have any distractions as will be such an important year for my career.

I'm just finding it really hard to know what to do! Some people have said to start looking and planning things now whereas others have said its far too early and to try and forget about everything for a year?!

    What would you do !?!

I think you can have ideas and shop around for colours, styles, etc but i defiantly think its too early to buy most stuff. I am only just starting now with over 10 months to go but i have changed my mind so many times so if you buy too early you may change again.

Concentrate on your career and you have the rest of your life with this man so 2015 will come round quick enough xxx

Im getting married 5.9.14 and feel the same as you It feels so far away and when we 1st got engaged was looking at everything but now I feel like I dont want to as it so far away and we cant afford to do anything really untill after new year once we hiopefully get our house.

It is a horrid feeling but like millz090 says concentrate on ur career, and it will come around start a scrap book that is wht i have done but like Millz I have also chaged my mind in just the short time of being engaged so I have no clue of what i will finally decide on lol xx

It comes around fast.. i joined here with just over a year to go and now im 8.5 months away! Dont know where time goes!

My SIL is in the same boat, her weddings Nov next year but doesn't think its time to plan yet, i said its never to early to start looking.
I suggested to her, maybe start compiling together colours/ideas of flowers/cakes/dresses/bridesmaid dresses etc so that when it is a little bit nearer the time you can take your ideas straight to the right place and take it from there?
Rather than waiting till 9months before, going ok dress time, now what.
Planning in advance you can say right i like this that the other, go into the dress shop and find what you are looking for - i know its never that simple but you get my drift!

some ladies on here bought their dresses 18-24 months before their big day, others waited till 6 months etc. Certain things need to be booked / ordered in advance, especially depending on when it is you are getting married - if its busy season etc. Also think about what is happening around your wedding month as you may be able to find bargains / discounts etc, or certain days.

We got engaged Feb 2011, and set a date for August 2014.

We booked our venue April 2011, and I bought my dress November 2011. We are hoping to book the photographer within the next few months, after literally 6 months of research. Will book the cake and flowers next summer, and start shopping for the BM dresses late next year.

IMPO it is definitely not too early to start at least researching; and as you are doing what I have been told is a very tough and time-intensive degree, I think you would be wise to start sooner rather than later. I looked at well over 100 venues online, did research/got quotes from several dozen, and visited 12 in person; the whole process took about 6 weeks :-s And the photographer is turning out to be a nightmare, I actually have a headache from looking lol.

I think if you leave everything until you've completed your degree you will a) massively limit yourselves in terms of venues and photographers (a lot we looked at were fully booked (though TBF we did want a Saturday in August which is prime time) up to 12 months in advance) and b) stress yourself out.

That said, your studies obv need to be your focus, so try not to get too carried away, and just do bits of research when you get time eg during the holidays.

Well we've booked our venue which we actually found very easy as we both fell in love with it as soon as well saw it!

We're marrying on easter weekend so i presume this may be a bit more popular than an ordinary weekend?

I did think that in 2014 I don't really want to be looking at anything as I will be swamped with legal research!

I would quite like to get the vast majority of things sorted before I return to uni so I can turn my full attention to my degree! After graduation I will only have 8 months to wait!

we got engaged on 23rd decemeber 2011 and in 3 months we will have been engaged 1 year the time goes no where it doesnt feel like i have been engaged nearly a year feels like only a few month , 2015 will sharp be around there is no harm in looking and if you want to book things then go ahead all i would say is leave your dress till your absolutely sure its the one you want i thought i found the dress i wanted while shopping with my sister for her vow renewal before i got engaged then when my h2b proposed and i went dress shopping i seen loads more dresses that i liked so i am now waiting till a little closer to the time as styles change and some dresses get discontinued i have a fairly rough idea of what i want though.

Feel free to add me as a friend . x

I've also got what seems like a million years to go. The best thing I've found to do is a lot of looking! I've only got the venue and the DJ booked and bought some wedding insurance and that's all I'm doing until 12 months before!

well my wedding is also in 2015... 2/5/15 actually..

and i have got my dress, and the venue/food sorted... and the wedding ceremony and theme for the wedding!! my motto is you can never start to early! obviously extras that i want such as choco fountain and dj etc will be booked later to the date, but things i can reassure will be around for a while i have booked! also means i have longer to pay for things!

so dont feel like you cant start planning now hun, i dont want to be a stressed out bridezilla.. :)

I felt exactly the the same KatieA72 although without the law degree, we have recently got enanged and im still wrapped up in the excitement we dont plan on get married until March 2015 purely cos we need to save, however I have started to get and ideas and I am write them all done with websites, contacts etc in my little wedding planning book. We have started to look at venues and I do hope we have something booked in the next few months as at least we will then have an exact date to aim for x
