My friend did a speach at her wedding, but it's not traditional to do so.

On another note, when do you do the speaches, before or after the meal?! and in what order??

I think i'd be too nervous to do a speech - its not traditional but i do know of people who have done it.

Im not sure when to have them though - i feel like getting them out the way at the beginning of the meal may be a good idea!

There are so many people out there who will tell you
    what you can't do.
What you have to do is turn around and say, "watch me"!!

Traditionally the bride doesn't say anyting speech wise, but nowadays some are preferring to say something, it's personal preference - they used to take place after the meal but in later years some are doing them before to get rid of any speech nerves! Order is usually father of the bride, groom thanks father for speech and thanks everybody for helping, and says a nice bit about his new wife, then the best man finishes up.

    Hope this helps

I'm hoping to do a speech, but as the other ladies have said it's not traditional for the bride to do one. Also it's up to you when to have the speeches. We are having them after the meal as we are having a few children at our wedding and think it's really unfair to expect them to sit quietly not only whilst bored but hungry too!! But our venue did ask even if we wanted to do a speech after each course. I guess to spread them out!

I think I probably will do one myself as well - I think it would be nice for my family if I said a few words as well x

Dan wanted me to do a speech but I refused. So he incorporated me into his a bit at the start!

We did Father of Bride, Groom then Best Man. We did our before the meal, so that they could enjoy it!

As my dad is not coming and not sure if my mu will wanna do a speech as she doesn't speak English, I will do a speech in behalf of my dad in both French and English as most of my French guest don't speak English and most of my in-laws don't speak French, so it should be very entertaining and original

What Melody said. I'm as shy as they come but something about sitting there and saying nothing doesn't sit right with me. I plan to say a few thank you's, especially to H2B's family for being so welcoming and for making the effort to be at our wedding (because it's more than my family is likely to do!)

found out the wrong way (i was sneaking about dads folder looking for coupons ha! and found his speech!!!) hes asked me to say a few thank yous since im getting married on my birthday.....feck wasnt expecting that lol

so i will do it and since by then i would have at least had plenty of alcohol it wont be a issue lol

also h2b made his dad believe that he has to do a speech and told us a week ago he had his written out, now we dont want to say anything now that it was a hoax lol. but at my sisters wedding all the men folk at the top table except the minister done a speech so it look like that way at mine now too.
