Hey not sure if I have put this in the correct cat sorry if I haven't mods.
I'm obviously new to planning a wedding I just wondered who typically does a speech at a wedding?

At ours it was the best man, my hubby and myself. My step Dad is not one for doing speeches so he never said anything.
Our wedding day - 6 October 2012

Normally its the father of bride, then bestman then the groom, but is not going that way at mine, it will probs be my mum, then best man, then moh, then groom and finaly me! As they can't expect me to sit there and not say a word!

No best man at ours and our parents are all deceased so i think my future husband will probably get up and say a few words just to thank everyone for attending as everyone will have come a long way to be there. If i have it in me on the day i would like to say something but i am a shy person so i may not if i can't find the courage.
At our wedding, my h2b will have his speech and his best man. I wanted to say few words but my fiancee has told me to keep out of it cause that's his moment, lol.

The traditional people are Father of the bride/ Groom and best man but i say have whoever you want :) i intend to make a speech but i tend to get embarrased in front of people and will probably just end up laughing so we'll see :) x

Lol I'd like to say a few words but I know I'll bloody cry haha. So will prepare one perhaps then see how I feel, perhaps after a couple of alcoholic drinks I may have passed the tears stage lol xxx

hahahaha you sound just like me, every wedding ive seen on the tv lately i cry at!!! but thats one thing, alcohol will help :) xx

Yeah I keep watching four weddings etc and I cry every time haha. Xx

it must be a build up of nerves, excitement..... or just sheer panic haha!!! im quite an emotional person anyway for some reason (i cry at anything on the tele)!! We'll both be fine doing our speeches just remember the one thing we need before hand - that very large drink :)
And another thought is, if we dont feel comfortable doing it during the other speeches we can always do it later on at night over the dj box! that way were bound to be very merry haha xx

Good idea lol xx

It is bad enough everyone will be looking in my and H2B direction!! lol I cannot imagine having to give a speech too!! So will leave it to my funny H2B and whoever he chooses as his Best Man! My Dad is quiet and very shy, so if he doesnt want to do one, I wont make him. But this is a great thread to get an idea on order of speeches, will have to google who is meant to traditionally thank who etc

Tradition as mentioned is FoB, Groom and finally Best Man. However you can have whoever you like make speeches as sometimes people don't have a best man or even, often sadly, a FoB at the wedding.
I personally will not be making a speech... 3 will be enough and I don't want it to turn in to a dining-in night like in the mess!
Also, and this is just a personal hate, so please, if you have done this or are planning to don't be offended as everyone is entirely entitled to do what they want on their day and just because I say something doesn't mean I am right or wrong or have any more class or taste! (get out clause as I have unintentionally offended people in the past with my forceful opinion of my taste!) I really cringe when the bride makes a speech... I've heard a few and seen some on DTTB on TV and the phrase "I just want to thank you all for coming" just sounds so desperate like you had to drag them there... people should want to be there anyway and you're forking out a fortune for them to be there!
Also, there's no need to in my opinion... enjoy the moment of being a princess and allow yourself to be complimented without having to say anything back by your dad, husband and best man!
It's different if you have an unusual set up at the wedding and don't have the three traditional speeches of course!
And we lived happily ever after!

My venue is giving us 30 minutes for the speeches and im sure they will run over as my dad likes to talk but it might be different at the wedding.
Normally like the other ladies have said FOB, Groom and the Best Man.
You dont even have to have speeches if you dont want to.
