    I'm really not keen on the speech part of the traditional wedding - is there any way of getting around them or doing something different? I'd be nervous for the people having to stand up and talk, and I'd rather they didn't have the pressure of worrying about it all day. Anyone have any ideas?

    Get them to write it out and then read directly from it occasionally looking up to the back of the room which will include the listeners more, will take the edge right off. Will build their confidence. Cant go wrong if its written in front of you

    Some people love to talk :D >_>;

    Maybe they can just write it and photocopy it and people can read it like that

    Because the BM is frightened, I'm going to take a turn going round each guest who will say a short sentence in between speeches, that way no one feels individually pressured because everyone is speaking

    What about doing a video in advance, it could have people speaking on it, or holding up boards with writing on. It could even be a straightforward powerpoint, include some nice pictures of you and h2b and a picture of each of the people you want to thank.

    OWB - thanks, I'd thought about doing a video, I think it might be a less formal alternative to speeches, and it would allow people to just relax and enjoy the day.

    Just our best man did a short speech and hubby gave out the presents so he was still involved. It worked brilliantly x
