Been trying to contact the registrars for the past few weeks to make our ceremony payment (payment was due on saturday). But the switchboard can never put me through to them, but have told me to email every time to say I've been trying to contact them to make the payment, as it's now late, cos I couldn't get through to them!
Soo anyway, I've been calling and emailing everyday.... and I literally just got off the phone to the switchboard, and got a sh!tty email through from the registrars threatening to cancel our wedding if we don't make the payment!!!!!
Errrr.... I have been trying, and they obviously haven't read any of my emails!!!
I'm really really angry about how crappy they are, and they're dealing with the most important day of peoples lives!!!

Aw this is horrible! As if they would threaten you like that without calling you first to see if everything is ok!
Is it possible for you to visit the office in person? If it is I'd say get down there asap and don't move until someone has sorted this. Also ask to speak to a manager about the poor service you have received!

No, we're not getting married near where we live, and they're saying we need to pay it NOW! It's bloody appalling!! Shame you HAVE to use the registrars or we'd def be going elsewhere. I guess that's how they can get away with it though... the fact that you have no choice but to use them!!
It's really horrible as well, cos if they did cancel it, we might lose our date/time and it wouldn't be our fault at all!! Really not a nice position to be in!

Phone and ask to speak to a manager, otherwise you will just stay on the line and refuse to hang up, make sure you take notes on these calls like times/names etc because you can report them if they hang up on you.
Don't take any excuses just play heck with them! It's your wedding day - one of the biggest days of your life, don't stand for it. x

It's an 0845 number *cries* - phone bill is gonna be bad enough as it is... and they're closed for the day now. I've emailed them all the times I tried to make the payment lately, and I've enclosed my number in the emails. Grrrr! Switchboard have also emailed them when I've called past few times.

Make a log of every call you have made (if you can remember) and every email you have sent. Email them back by replying to the one they sent you and request a read receipt and flag it as urgent. Make sure you mention the log that you have of all the phone calls and the number of emails you have sent.

Leave your number in the email and let them know you'll be putting an official complaint in.

Thats what i would do anyways

Either that or have you got someone who can drop it in for you? Have you got records showing that you have been emailing them about trying to send them the money? If you have then they shouldn't really be able to cancel your date as you have proof you have been trying to contact them to make it. Just out of interest which email address have you been sending it to? Sometimes the one they email you on is from an address that doesn't receive incoming emails so that may be why they haven't had anything.

Ugh, that's disgusting service! Are you able to contact your local registry to see if they could contact the registrar? This kind of behaviour is just not on! I think they use the fact that you can't just use someone else to their advantage *insert expletive here*

as far as im aware registry offices are run by the council i would first off call again demand to speak to a manager if that doesnt work then find out who the director of the council is and complain to him either in writing or by email cause the directors dont like it when they get complaints sent to them about how they are running things i would also send a postal order to them if you send it special delivery it will get there the next day plus need to be signed for it is costly though round about £5 i think but its fast and secure i would then tell the director of the council that you want the cost of the postal order and the postage back due to incompetent staff hope you get on ok xx

Ring the General Register Office in Southport and speak to Marriages Team, they advise the Register Offices across the country on legislation and procedures. They also advise the public on how to marry within England and Wales. Whilst they cant sort out the problem for you as it is a local council issue they can perhaps give you a telephone number directly for the Register Office rather than you constantly trying to go through the call centre. Alternatively they can give you the telephone number of the Council Registration Manager that you can speak to and say you want to start a formal complaint. That will get things moving I promise you ;) x

Wow, that's expensive. Ours was £395 if we paid by a certain time, then it went up to £470! Its a ridiculous amount of money since they only come for an hour, and to a venue they're so close to. Our religious ceremony is costing half that!
