Cant you only vote for one party though tiggs, this is my first time voting so i am so rediculously confused. My ballet paper only had the local candidates on it.

I might be being really silly, my dad spent house trying to explain this to me and i was SO confused lol!

There are two different elections today.

The General Election for your local MP.
Then in some areas the Local elections for the local councils.

So if you only have one paper, its the General Election.

Lets put it this way- if you go to the polling station, and you get given one ballot paper, its for the General Election for Westminister and you vote for one person.

if you get given two, you are also voting in the local election.

    Ahhh okies!

Im voting Lib Dem in my local area cos we got a thing thru the door for labour saying "born and bred in blaydon" then underneath said "but from whickham"
So it was a lie basivally
The lib dem one has ALWAYS lived in blaydon and hes so lovely! Answered all my questions!

    No sign of conservative!

Dove it can depend.. if your given a yellow ballot paper then you are european and therefore can only vote on the local election, if your also given a white one then you're also voting for the general. At least thats what i saw when i went.

I had a yelllow and a white. Yellow is local, white is general, but if you are eligible to vote in general you can vote in white if there is a local election.

Dove's right, if there are local elections in your area as well you are handed a yellow and a white ballot paper, UNLESS you are an EU citizen in which case you only get the yellow one.

    Just voted!

I work for Government and once you get past a certain Grade you are considered a 'politically restricted class' so whilst I am allowed to vote, I'm not allowed to talk about it on things like forums!

I'm still trying to decide and will go after work.....

Lib dem and labour have said previously that theyd unite if there was a hung parliament meaning conservatives wudnt get a look in regardless!

Lib dem for meeee - doing it after work tonight!!!

I don't even know if we got our card, anything election wise got ignored.

I won't be voting anyway... doesn't make much difference who is elected they all do a s**t job regardless who it is. I also won't be voting as we emigrate in less than 3 months, don't see the point in wasting my time.

ive just voted lib dem this morning because Labour have screwed the country up enough and the conservatives have slander posters all over about gorden browns failures and i feel that if they are going to sink as low as to point out n slander someones mistakes then they cant be trusted to lead the country properly, they could of done it more tastefully ! so that left the lib dems, i thought why not they may be ok, its the first time ive actually bothered to vote as something needs doing to clear up our country xx
