So im planning an engagement party as we speak irish theme :)
But when do i need to start planning the main event? Everyone
Looks puzzled when i say i want to do things soon.. Am i way ahead of myself?
Am i too excited? When do we need to look at booking things? Hellllp lol

It's not too early at all, some venues, caterers and photographers will book up two years in advance. At this point I'd recommend sitting down with your h2b and making a list of what you want from the day; small and intimate and larger with all the family and friends there. Castle, hotel, church hall, abroad. Religious or non-religous. That kind of thing.

Then look at budget, how much can you realistically get together in the next two years. Then sort out what is the important thing to spend your money on, the venue, the food, the photographer etc and prioritise from there.

I wouldn't get your hopes up on your family and friends being too excited just yet, it's a long way off for them, however you will find a lot of help on here!!

We're getting married in 2015, we booked our venue last month, enquired about the dates in February and already 3 of the dates we wanted were booked up ! They were 13th June 15, 1st August 15 and 8th August 15.. Now it's 4th July 2015 :-)
My bro and SiL went to get a quote for a venue and they have 2 dates left for this year, 3 for next year and 2 for 2015 and thats it.. So I'd definitely get looking straight away !! No matter what anyone in your life tells you about it being too soon, you'll always have a bunch of us on here egging you on :-) xxx

Congratulations. Start with venues and setting a date, as then you can book other things. If you do one thing a month you'll be surprised how long it takes, but it spreads it all out.

It's never too early, we got engaged in oct 2012 and booked our venue in November 2012 and our registrar in November 2012 for sept 13th 2014, giving us 22months to plan... Seems a long time but we took the last registrars slot for our day so it shows how far in advance ppl are booking, there's benefits to booking early.i.e more time to work out a budget and pay it off plus it means if there's a photographer or venue u love, u won't lose it to someone else because you've booked it straight away x

sORT YOUR GUEST LIST, dont PICK YOUR BRIDESMAIDS (lol) YET. once you have your guest list sorted it makes looking for venues easier, there is no reason you can't strart straight away! im in the exact same situation as kelbel, ive had my venue booked since jan and we are also getting married on the 13th sept next year, the sooner you start planning and booking the easier it is to budget and save money i think. Good photographers will get snapped up (lol pun) really early as well!

I agree with the others hun, would start straight away with venues and that and work from there. I, like KelBel got engaged October 2012, started locating and sorting things and that in the November and getting married 13th september 2014 xxx

i'd say venue, i'm not having a church wedding but all the civil ceremony venues i viewed said they hold the date for X amount of days while you get in contact with the registrar so i'm sure it's the same for a church, they'll hold the date for a bit while you get in contact with the vicar and if all is set you then pay a deposit and book xx

but saying that, aren't you limited to which churches you can wed in? so if you're dead set on a certain date it might be better to speak to the church first? xx
