I just wanted to share this as I feel so low about it.

Many of you have read other threads where I've been upset about the weight I've put on since getting engaged in January. Well today I wore a dress to work today that is a lot tighter than I used to be and I can really feel it. What really upset me was that a number of my colleagues commented on how much tighter they noticed my dress was and they could see I'd put on weight.

It's just made me feel even worse about something I was already feeling really low about :(

I am going to try on wedding dresses again on Saturday and I'm dreading it now because I'm going to look in the mirror and see "the fat girl". I know I should be looking forward to it as it's the shop with the dress I didn't want to take off when I tried it on in March that I think might be the one.

This has just put a downer on it.

It was rude of them, I have to admit I did moan about it feeling tighter than it used to. They know I'm upset about the half stone and I know for some people it doesn't sound a lot but I'm only 5' 1.5" and size 8 (well size 8-10 now) so half a stone really shows and you can really feel it. I am one of the smallest in the department so they joked that half a stone wouldn't even be noticeable on them if they lost it.

I hate my clothes so tight, it feels and looks terrible.

I've started trying to do a bit of exercise again and told H2B we need to stop getting takeaways so much as that's increased since he popped the question.

That is rude of your colleagues to make such comments, they should be more sensitive.

Don't let it get to you, all women have weight fluctuations and you shouldn't feel bad about it. You're happy, engaged, you're still nine months away and no matter what you will look absolutely beautiful in your dress.

Thanks Ataraxia. I just really wanted to feel perfect on Saturday. My best mate and I are going to the hairdressers in the morning to get our usual cut and finish (and she gets her grey dyed) then head to the shop with my mum and sister to hopefully fall in love with the dress again and put a deposit down. At the moment my sister and best mate are more excited than I am. I just feel so unattractive right now.

I understand the feeling, in fact I'm 5' 3" and usually a 8-10 myself so I know how it can be.... I went from a size 4 to a size 8 in about two years, then had my second implant put in and went up to a 14 at one point from water retention and stupid hormonal weight gain - I wasn't that big but when you're barely five feet tall you do feel massive especially if you're used to being slim. I once went shopping for new jeans and nothing would fit me and I ended up going home in tears feeling like the Incredible Hulk... I'm now back down to an 8-10 and intend to stay that way!

It's a good idea to have a bit of a pamper sesh before, wear some pretty knickers and have a lovely day... it will make you feel much better! x

you know what, don't even get stressed about it. Some people notice things and have to say something just to make you feel bad because they are not happy in their own skin and are prob just a tad jelous that they aren't as slim as you. I swould love to be a size 8-10 but I know that will never happen , well not in this lifetime. I am sure you will look stunning on your day. If you don't feel good about it in yourself you still have plenty of time to lose it. I have a fews tips etc I can share with you.

Thanks hun. It really does help when others understand how I feel. So many people tell me I'm skinny anyway but they just don't understand that I used to be a size 14 and at my height meant I just looked like a short dumpy ball of fat. I will never lose that image in my mind and just so frightened of going back to that. I've already had a cry tonight.

My best mate is trying to cheer me up and organise something for us to do to make me feel better. She's just lost a load of weight and it's still coming off. She's almost my dress size but far taller than me so looks stunning. My sister has always been a size 6-8 never struggled with her weight and is taller so again is a stunner. So they make me feel even worse about my body unintentionally, they can't help being gorgeous but I feel so rubbish about myself :(

LegoBride - I was a size 14 (going into a 16 for many brands). I started going crazy on the exercise, like swimming twice a week, jogging and doing weights as well as water aerobics classes and badminton. I also seriously cut down portion sizes and a lot of junk food. The weight fell off. I have a dairy allergy anyway so can't eat anything with milk products in it which rules out a lot of processed foods and I'm tee total. Exercise is the key as I could eat normally, have treats and know I was burning it off.

Aww Lego! I did my final year at uni AND planned a wedding haha. I credit the stress of that for my loss, I didn't even notice only found out at my asthma checkup - had lost a full stone between the last year's check up and this year's! I love chocolate FAR too much to ever stop eating it and literally cannot diet or exercise! The closest I come to exercise is Just Dance on the xbox :p and walking everywhere.

I think we all have a friend or friends who lose weight effortlessly or always manage to eat whatever they like and diet successfully.. don't let it get you down, okay? x

Mrs Sheppard2B - I do understand others want to be my size but like you say, I have got used to being an 8. My clothes labels might say 8 or 10 but I still see size 14 when I look in the mirror, especially with this extra 7lbs.

Noticed you wanna hit 7st 12lbs! How tall are you?

At my lightest I was 7st 13lbs and I have to admit now from looking a pix of me in a bikini at that time I looked like I had a problem, ribs and hip bones showing and thin gaunt face.

I look at it in the way as YOU have to feel comfortable. It doesnt matter what anyone else thinks. If you do unfortunately see yourself like that in a wedding dress then you know that you can change that, but take no notice of what people at work say, they are just rude like others have said.

Trust me, i was around 8stone when i first met my partner, and i piled on weight while being with him and i'm now 9 and a half stone. Thats because i found someone to be comfortable around, who loved me for who i was, so now, i'm not too bothered i put that weight on, because i was happy when it happened

I know exactly what you mean, I'm 5'1" and was always a size 8 then I met h2b and put on 1.5 stone and I felt hideous. I could feel rolls under my clothes and I could feel weight jiggling when I ran. My friends and colleagues kept telling me that I was still slim and one colleague even had a go at me when I refused a doughnut because I was trying to lose weight. Apparently I was making her feel bad about herself because she's large and had 2 doughnuts (my fault how). Thankfully I've worked bloody hard and lost the weight so feeling better about trying on dresses but I have been dreading it. I have never said to anyone that I feel fat because I know I'm not fat by any stretch of the imagination but I felt larger than normal and had to do something about it.

Shirleygirly you've described exactly my feeling, I can actually grrab about 2 inches of flesh around my waist. I feel fat as I'm larger than what I have been the past 4 years but can't say to others I am fat as the labels in my clothes say otherwise.

I'm feeling more motivated now to take control back and shift what I have gained in the past 6 months.

You will do it! Use the dress as inspiration, every time you think of doing something naughty think dress. I hadn't been for a run for over a year until 3 weeks ago, I bought an app to assist you in running 5k to get my fitness back up and it's been brill, I'm running better than ever. People always go on about how little I have to lose and how easy it is. What they don't appreciate is how hard it is to lose weight when you don't have much to lose. Then you have to worry about losing too much and looking too skinny. At least you're not alone and you can always rant at us chick. x

That's often worse than gaining weight Tinkerbell because people assume you're doing it on purpose or have an eating disorder. From the sound of your last posts the stress can't be helping your situations. I'm afraid I have no helpful advice on how to gain weight but on the plus side, it must be nice to have a guilt free cake now and again.

It's very rude of anyone to turn round and tell someone how much weight they have put on. At the end of the day they do not know how that person is feeling about the weight gain, and like yourself, feeling very conscious about it, as do I about my weight gain since meeting H2B.

Good luck with trying on dresses on Saturday, bet you will look lovely though as you will find the dress that suits you.

Ah that's so mean! Really rude to say anything that personal to somebody :-(

If you haven't already, it'd totally recommend starting a new form of exercise. The month I got engaged I decided I needed to lose some weight and the wedding was a perfect incentive. I started zumba. I went all on my own twice a week, on top of swimming twice a week too. It's obviously doing me good as I'm much fitter now than in October, my figure's changed and it works as a good motivator to keep eating well. If I'm gonna bust my b-u-t-t at the exercise I don't want to undo it all with the eating. It's really worked. I've lost quite a lot of weight (1.5 stones) that I just couldn't do on dieting alone. Portion control also helps. I always used to split our meals 50/50 but now I have to make an effort to give h2b more!

Good luck on Saturday! You'll have a great time and look fab. You've got time to lose anything you want to so don't let anybody get you down :-)

I've definitely got an incentive now to get fitter and healthier again and back to what I was 6 months ago. Like you say it's not a lot to lose but when you don't have much to lose anyway it's harder to do!

Tinkerbell - have you had your thyroid checked? It could possibly be an overactive thyroid as you lose a lot of weight without trying if that's what you have. Hope you find the solution as I know it can be just as frustrating not being able to keep it on or put it on when all you want is a nice hour glass figure and cleavage vs. not eating and still not being able to lose weight!

Wow, well for starters your collegues are very rude! And my guess is most of them will be bigger than you, and it makes them feel better! Secondly, you keep saying that you see your size 14 self all the time. Have you got a photo from when you were that size? If you have, put it up on the fridge somewhere, with a picture of you now next to it. That way, when you feel bad if you look at it, you will be able to see the difference in size and it will make you feel better. I have this but the other way round because I got waaaaay too skinny, so I put a photo of that up with a photo of me from new years this year. So when I feel fat and think about not eating, I look at that and see just how bad I looked the last time I starved myself, and how much better I look now. And then I feel better about myself. It doesnt have to be on your fridge though, maybe just have them in a draw somewhere so you can look at them side by side in private. And I am now off to hunt out this new thread of yours!! Exciting! xxx

Well then it is jealousy! The only reason they said it is so that they would feel a bit better about themselves. Women can be very b*tchy at times! And I think no matter what shape or size you are you will always find bits about you that you dont like or that can be better, I think it's in our genes! But I know what you mean about wanting to lose some to feel better in yourself. And you have 9 months to do it in, so even if you lose a pound a month, thats still 9lbs you would have lost. Just cutting out 2 takeaways a month would probably do that! xxx

In the process of loosing it. I understand their mentality because it makes them feel better that a skinny person has put on weight, but cannot believe how heartless and incsensitive some people can be. What if the roles were reversed and you commented on their weight. They wouldn't like it.
But take comfort in the fact that you ain't as big as them :P, don't have much to lose and you have done it before, so you have the tools to do it again.
Extra bonus of the dress search today as extra motivation :D

Thank you Halebob. I am now so motivated to get myself back to what I used to be 6 months ago.

Bless my neighbour upstairs. I was asking her about the various kettlebells and she has leant me hers to try out before I buy.

    xx

I know what you mean girls I'm only 5'3 (and a half) and a size 12-14 my sister is a size 14 but 5 inches taller so looks loads slimmer. I need to get down to a 6-8 again to fit into my dress but last two times I managed to loose weight and get back down to an 8 I was living with my mum and eating takeaways nearly every night as there was never any food in the house. There is no way I'm moving back into hers as she now has her bfs kids living there most of the time and she annoys the hell out of me.
I keep trying to go back to my dancing but at around 15 quid a time (10 of which travelling costs) its hard to justify when the bills need paying. We have just bought a Kinect with a dancing game but it annoys me I want to be able to do a few songs at once instead of doing a song then 2min break to get to another I loose motivation.
