Bit of a rant coming up sorry girls (and guys!)..

We paid a £100 non-refundable deposit to our Social Club venue when he fell in love with the size of the hall. Ever since we booked it they have practically said no to everything we have asked for. We asked for a BBQ (big outside space - so not really a big deal), they said no, we asked to do our own catering and they initially said no to that too. The only reason they have agreed now is if we pay a £50 supplement to store our food in their fridges and use their work surfaces and another £50 for them to clear it all away at the end of the night, unless we do it ourselves.. The last thing i'm going to want to do at the end of the night after the party has finished is pack away all the left over food etc..

Anyway, i have been emailing some different venue decorating companies over the last 2 days and i got someone come back to me today basically saying that even though i have a small budget they think they'll be able to supply me with some wall swagging and lighting features to change the mood of the hall. Its a complete blank canvass so something needs to be done to jazz it up a bit. The lady at the decorating firm asked for measurements so i emailed the venue and she came back and said that she doesn't know the measurements of the hall, if people have decorators come in then they meet them at the venue and let them measure up. Thats fair enough i suppose but then she put in her email that due to rules and regulations and a 'sign of the times' she very much doubts we'll be allowed to do what we want.. I'm sooooo cross!

They seem to be out to make money any way they can, basically by robbing me blind, and they're not agreeing to anything even though i don't think i'm being very unreasonable!

I think they are being ridiculous!
    Very petty indeed!
    This is a WEDDING
What the hell does she expect you to do?
Any chance you can arrange a face to face meeting with her with H2B there as back up if your not brave enough to confront her?
I would be asking exactly WHAT can you do and does she understand this is a WEDDING, not just a family get together!

Think she means Health and Safety gone nuts when she refers to a sign of the times. She's a pain in the rear end to be honest and i wish we had gone somewhere else now! She's causing me the biggest headache!!

I've had a look on their website at some pics of other weddings that they have held there and they have lighting features etc so i don't know what she has decided to be awkward now! At the end of the day i am spending my money there, you'd think she'd be a little bit more helpful! Doesn't help that she is near enough impossible to contact via phone and everything has to be done via email. Grrrrrrr!

maybe its worth saying you booked the venue after seeing photographs online with the hall decorated so assumed that this would be possible for your wedding, including lighting features etc. Why do some people feel the need to be so awkward and impossible regarding weddings! I bet she was all smiles when she took your deposit!!

I'm sure the company you are hiring to decorate the venue have all the relevant fire safety and health and safety training as they clearly decorate other venues. I think she's just being a pain in the bum for no aparent reason. I've never heard of anyone not being able to decorate their venue before. I have a friend who is getting married in a village hall and they have been more than accomodating. She's paid £100 for hire of the hall, she's got her own caterers coming and they have full use of the kitchens and storage prior to the wedding. The caterers will clear up dishes etc but the rest of the clearing up has to be arranged by 5pm the next day for which they are either going to do themselves or hire cleaners for a couple of hours. When she told them about her decorators coming they asked for pictures because they'd like to see how it's done and when she told them she had Japanese theme, she was told that they have a store room that might have some Japanese style props. She couldn't be happier with the way things have turned out as she was really worried about the venue.

I would let the decorators go to the venue and meet with her and discuss what you want. They will be able to shut her up if she starts getting all Health and Safety police on them.

    I can't wait until 29/06/2013
The day I marry the man of my dreams!

Try to geta meeting face face with her at the venue with your h2b AND the venue dresser so you can go through with everyone what you want and what you can and cant do
