Me and my partner have been together for 5 1/2 years and we have 2 kids together. We had decided a few months ago to get married. We started planning, (dates, venues, receptions etc) but we have had to cancel yet again. Our original wedding was going to cost £8000 but that was in the Marriott hotel but we had to cancel then I have been writing up budgets and everything and managed to come up with a £2k one. Thing is we were talking and decided we would probably be better off saving up for a mortgage while were still young. Even then thats going to take ATLEAST 8 years........Getting married is a big thing to alot of people but tbh I have already got a wedding band on and I am already married , just not legally. It's just hard to think we would either have to put up with a cheap wedding or living in private houses for ages and not having a mortgage deposit aside. xx

EXACTLY what we have done hunni!
We are in private renting at the mo and have 3 kids. We sat down talking and decided in the long run a house our OWN house was much more important then one day!!
We live together anyway have joint bank accounts do everything a married couple do we just havent got that all important piece of paper!
So we postponed the wedding for the 3rd time (long stories that are on here somewhere) and are now saving for a house first!!!

I'm still planning and getting qoutes and buying the little things that I know i wont change my mind over and to be honest its like a weight has been lifted because the cost has been spread out and already ive saved 2k just by booking things last year rather then this year.................imigine my savings by the time the wedding comes!!! hehehe

I couldnt be happier and i totally agree with you.
Do what you want hunny get that security behind you then worry about a wedding!

lol :) it does make so much more sense long term, sure the thought of the 'big day' is what we're all thinking about, but I imagine the feeling of coming back from honeymoon knowing that the weddings done, as is the cash which could have been a lovely deposit on a home... definitely know which would give most enjoyment long term xx

Well thats the way we see it. We are like a married couple anyway lol. We just dont want to be paying someone elses mortgage when we could be paying out own. I have been researching online and there is alot of deals for 1st time buyers, a few only want a £999 deposit, so will look into that. Defo will be a catch there somewhere. Besides a ring and paper doesnt make a marriage. I mean not being funny or anything but I think me and H2B could show a few MARRIED couples what it takes to have a good relationships lol. Patience is a virtue as they say ladies xx

I think that it is a very hard but admirable decision. One that you will both look back on and feel that it was very much the right thing to do. I am sure that in years to come you will feel a lot more stable when planning the wedding of your dreams that you have the security of your own home together. xxx
