Is it just me or have you found that some people can be really quite snobbish about your honeymoon destination??
When people have asked me where we're thinking of going, the reaction varies so much depending on what answer I give (we haven't decided yet as I keep changing my mind!). I completely understand that its our decision and nothing to do with anyone else and we'll have a great time wherever but it really annoys me how judgemental and rude people can be!!
We've looked at Cape Verde which looks beautiful and gets quite a good reaction but we also like the look of Turkey (Belek) where the 5* hotels look out of this world. I can't help but think though that if we book Turkey we'll get the usual "but you could go to Turkey any year!" reaction.
Its stressing me out!! I know the only answer is to go with what we want but its easier said than done when you can't decide!!

You need to go for what you want.
Yes you could go to turkey any year but could you go five star turkey?
CommentAuthorMrsColetobe
thing is, you can go anywhere any year - it just depends on who the people who say that what they can afford - its not up them and it pees me off when people judge it too!
CommentAuthorRachaelC80
We're going to Italy to watch motorbike racing(as we both love it) and our friends think that's really cool!! I don't understand why people are judging you for your honeymoon destination?? Why do you care what other people think?? I wouldn't care if we just stayed home.... As long as I was with my new husband!!! :-)

You go where you and your h2b want to go, not where the others want you to go.
If like myself and my husband (we've not had our honeymoon yet) went somewhere like Turkey, we would not be able to go there any year, we cannot afford to go on a holiday so that would be something that would make us happy if it was the usual holidaying place.
i dont know where im going as H2b has booked it as a surprise! when i tell people i dont know they all look at me funny as if im keeping it from them!! really odd! ignore them both cape verde and turkey are both beautiful!! a couple i know went surfing in Newquay for their honeymoon! xx
CommentAuthorShazk
I dont no where we are going on honeymoon but it does annoy me when people make comments about where people go.
Yes you "could" go to turkey any time but like GF says not everyone can afford luxary holidays every year and although i would personally like to go some where wow and different for our honey moon ( we have looked at Cape Verde as well) we have also concidered mexico and places like that as it all depends on budget and at the end of the day its about being away as husband and wife not where you go xx

the words get and stuffed would spring to mind, im dying to go to turkey for our honeymoon, i had the best time ever there last time i went, and i know there is loads for us to do, toms of the same 'but we could go turkey anytime' attitude. So we're having our own mini battle over it lol
I think Tom might win ours though, as i have been to turkey before. Doh.
If you andH2B want to go wherever you want, even if its camping in your back garden, people should just butt out.

I loved turkey. And 5* out there is proper luxury! But yeah people can be snobs. Originally we were going to Edinburgh and now were off to Mexico. Difference in people's reactions is unreal! Xx

Yep, I've had this. I work in a rather affluent town and a few of my customers are very well to do. They ask where I'm going on my honeymoon and I say Madeira, they respond with "oh, so not some exotic like the Seychelles". Erm nope, not only can I not afford it, but I'd be bored stiff there!! Just ignore them.
If only life could be one long tea break

Turkey is amazing. My h2b wont go there but I used to be cabin crew and I loved going to Turkey! Bodrum can be a bit of a dive depending on where you stay (but most places can have that). But everywhere else I went is awesome!
:)
the honeymoon is for YOU to enjoy - no one else.

We have had to compromise on standard.... if we picked somewhere slightly nearer to home it would have been cheaper flights so could have had a 5* hotel but we have decided on Cuba but flights more so only got a 4* hotel. Now im sure our hotel will still be amazing and we will love every minute of it but it was on our budget, i have had a few comments like 'O its not 5*' so actually i think where ever you go in the world and on whatever budget people will find something to comment on so my advice is ignore them and do what you want to do.
P.S. We have been to Turkey before and we loved it, it was a consideration for our honeymoon but fancied a different country.

Millz have you been to Cuba before? I've been a few times and it's beautiful! Such a great place.

No we haven't been but my cousin had and gave it great reviews so thought we would give it a go.... to be honest we had a list of about 10 destinations and went to travel agents with a budget and dates and went for the best option which was Cuba xxx

You will love it. So nice. We've booked Mexico for ours which i'm really excited about. We wanted to go to the Maldives but they didn't have a flight out until a week after our wedding and we didn't want to wait so long in between. Mexico is alot cheaper too so we have first class flights which i've never done before! I just can't wait to be on a beach somewhere!

Just go where you want to go! We're lucky enough to have been to some great places, and we've been long-haul 5 years running now, and going again this year; but we mainly go long-haul because it's actually CHEAPER than going to Europe lol. But if I tell someone we're off to the Caribbean again they're always like 'Ooh, get you!' as if we're massive snobs!
For our honeymoon though I think we're going to go somewhere in Europe; we'd like to spend 3 nights in a city (not sure where; looking at Amsterdam, Berlin, and various cities in Italy), and then 2 weeks at a villa (in possibly Italy, Greece, or Portugal). We do want to go somewhere we've not been, but we like the idea of having a whole villa to ourselves; and we can't do that long-haul as the good deals are always all inclusive, and to get a villa would cost a bomb. But when we tell people we're thinking about Europe they get all disappointed; comments have included 'Oh, not going somewhere exotic then?' or 'Oh, you're just going to Europe?' It's annoying, but I don't really care. We're not having children, and in a few years, should be fairly comfortable financially. We're not in a rush to go to 'exotic' places before kids arrive; we have our whole lives for that. So, we'll go wherever we want on our honeymoon thanks very much!

Awww you're all so lovely and you're all going to such fab places! I actually think Turkey will be too cool temperature wise at the beginning of April and we've been told a lot of the bars don't really open until the season really "starts" in May time so we might have to rule it out. I still love the look of Cape Verde though so either way its gona be amazing. Its just the snobbery and reactions people give that annoy me. Saying that though, if we had the money to go somewhere like the seychelles, we probably still wouldn't go there! haha xx
CommentAuthorbarbie86
April isn't super-hot in Cape Verde, so bear that in mind.
Other places you might also want to look at are:
Canary Islands Egypt Dom Rep/Cuba/Mexico
We find Dom Rep/Cuba/Mexico to price out really well, but only if you go for 10 nights or more (because the bulk of the cost is flights). I know a lot of people aren't keen because they're seen as 'typical' honeymoon destinations, but we've been to all 3 and love them, and the weather is perfect April: hot and dry. I don't know what your budget is, but you can get 2 weeks from under £900 pp all inc.
Oh, and I hear you on the Seychelles; a lot of places don't appeal to me, and the Seychelles, along with the Maldives, are two of them lol. You'd think I worship Satan though the reaction I get if I tell anyone they don't appeal!
CommentAuthorRachy
Thanks Barbie. We don't want it too hot as my h2b isn't really keen on the heat but we want it nice and warm. Thanks for your advice! We're also trying to balance it with things to do which really isn't easy!! We know CV is quite quiet but the hotel we're looking at on the Sal island looks great and not far from the town x

I've had this too, I got people dying of shock because we'd changed our mind from a multi centre Florida & the Caribbean to Tenerife!...how awful!
At the end of the day, even if you stay in a hotel down the road, it's your first holiday as husband & wife. It will be special no matter what. So ignore all the snobbish reactions, it's your holiday & it will be how you want it xx
CommentAuthorTatty
My mum went to Cape Verde a few years ago and has been back loads of times, she said it's lovely and currently her fave place for a hot holiday x

Haha we're just off up to Scotland! I'm really looking forward to it, though. We will probably have a big 'once in a lifetime' hol a few years after the wedding (safari, I think) but no way could we afford a wedding and a big holiday....that said, neither of us are keen on the heat, I can't swim and h2b is the worlds most fussiest eater, so a lot of places abroad are off the list...
Also, Im not keen on resorts but wouldn't feel comfortable to do it yourself abroad....but that's just me!
Do whatever makes you happy...it's YOUR honeymoon and wether you are in a five star suite or a tent, the amount of money spent on a holiday rarely equates to how 'good' it is xx

you go where you want.. ignore the rest of 'em.
When I got married the first time we went for a 4 night stay in Eastbourne - we were the youngest there by about 40 years!.. but that was all we could afford and we had a good time (I think hehe it was a while ago).
this time we're going to Barbados - part of the reason we're going there is because a friend of mine works for V-ir-gin and she got us very good discounts else it may've been somewhere else.
CommentAuthormym72
We got the same kind of reaction when we were choosing our honeymoon. At first we were going to book Tenerife - and even some of our family were like 'Ooh I wouldn't go there for a honeymoon, you need somewhere more special'!!?!?
We eventually chose Malta and funnily enough didn't get any 'bad' comments about that lol.
When we'd been married 8 months though, we had a holiday in the Canaries (Lanzarote) and afterwards both had to admit we enjoyed it even more than our honeymoon.
CommentAuthorMrsEvans13
We are going to Greece because we love it not because of what people think, we are looking at going to cape verde or egypt in september as a regular holiday, it doesnt matter where you go aslong as it will mean the world to you and your h2b! Xxx
