Hi all, this may sound odd but when I smile I never open my mouth to show teeth!
I actually have straight nice tooth so it's not that I'm trying to hide them-
I think I'm very self conscious and when I was at uni I had a major allergic reaction to an insect bite above my eye, as a result my left eye is slightly smaller- when I full smile in photos I feel you can see this more.
Anyone else not like teeth smiling and how did you overcome this to get natural wedding photos?

Im pretty sure this is just one of those things that you might notoce more than other people do. I have a slightly lazy left eye, also slightly accentuated when i smile brightly but nobody notices unless i physically point out out on photographs.
So long as youre happy i seriously doubt anybody will notice your slightly squinty eye ;-)

I am the complete opposite to you Michelle! I tend to smile with full-on teeth mode! lol. I think I do it partly because I don't like having my photo taken so I pull silly faces. But partly because I seem to have a prominent chin in photos, so smiling with teeth takes the eye away from the chin! haha! Mental I know ...

Lol- it's odd the thoughts that go through your head- steph yiu are right- no one else notices but me- OH said I was silly as well- guess I need to start practicing smiling with teeth!

Just smile however makes you more comfortable and most natural to you. I'm sure when it comes to it we will all be so tied up in the whole day that we won't think twice about how we're smiling! xx
I never show my teeth when I smile. Not because I'm trying to hide them but simply that when I smile naturally I don't open my mouth. If I attempt a toothy grin it looks like just that "a grin" and totally forced. So rather than look like the Joker from Batman I will most definitely not be forcing my mouth open for photos. Do what is most natural for you. Anything else might look awkward.

Have you/are youhaving an engagement shoot, or MUA trial? Maybe if you get dolled up and spend some time with a professional they can advise you if you are feeling really self conscious. (I'm sure people don't notice anyway, its usually only because you know its there!)

I think most people think they smile in an odd way lol. I'm opting to have my photographer take mostly natural shots. Less chance of over posing to compensate for my smile. I always look like I'm persing my lips

Its natural for me to smile and show my teeth even though they are not straight. To be honest I was so happy on the day I was smiling the whole time that I wouldn't even have time to think about how I was smiling. Even the couple photos where we're supposed to look more serious I couldn't do it because I was just too happy. The one of me getting ready and the photographer told me not to smile is probably my least favourite photo of the day because it looks so forced. X

Smile however your comfortable, personally I hate my teeth due to medication and a dodgy dentist when I was younger my teeth are horrid and weak but I will smile as I normally do I think.

Kirsty, how odd that he told you not to smile!!
I'm sure on the day, the way you smile will be the last thing on your mind. It will come naturally and because it is pure happiness you will look beautiful xxx

Like the others have said, thinking about how you're smiling will be the last thing on your mind when it comes to it on the day. I don't like showing my teeth as I have gaps and I don't like them, but on the day I was so happy I wasn't even thinking about it, and I don't hate the photos because you can see my teeth either... it's what makes me me and the pictures show pure happiness so it doesn't matter at all.
Also, you're probably not likely to have that many up close photos as the majority will be full body shots, so it probably won't even be that noticeable!

Emily, I think he was going for one of those serious thoughtful bride shots but it just didn't work for me. I look like I'm about to yawn. X

You won't even think on the day about how you smile. You will just smile how you usually do and your photographer will prob Catch lots of natural photos with you laughing etc. I wouldn't worry about it

Our photographer only did natural shots, got very few 'posed' pictures which is why I booked her. There are some beautiful ones where I am stood having my dress laced up and I look so serious, but actually I love them, I look quite nervous and you get a real feel for what I am thinking. As the others have said, I wouldn't worry too much as you won't even think about it on the day, you'll just have a happy natural smile x

If you discuss it with your photographer I'm sure they will have tricks to get a natural smile. Perhaps you could have lots of unstaged photos, where the photographer just gets you getting on with the day. My favourite photos are the ones that weren't posed.
30th August 2014 was the best birthday ever.

I cannot help but show my teeth when I smile, I also resemble a horse. All teeth and gums! Hate it but something I cannot control, ss soon as I smile it just happens
